speaking of pokemon a roll for last week:
Okay, Lupa gets a Nickit!
and because Lupa's tribe doesn't actually show up in canon, I've just been borrowing demons from other parts of SMT. And I'm running out of names haha.
and then I've got some that I don't know what Pokemon would fit best.
LIke Tiamat, Durga, Coatlicue, Gucumats, Tsitzimitl, and Sekhmet.
anybody else got thoughts?
Sekhmet is that collared alligator one, right? That one seems like it'd be the Sandile line.
Sekhmet is the lioness goddess of war!
and a few other things. (she was also associated with healing)
in one of the myths, she's sent down to stop enemies of Ra, and gets so full of wrath that she almost destroys all of mankind, so Ra tints wine blood red and pours it out, and once she gets drunk, she's like 'okay, 'm good now. let's be done and go home' and thus humanity is saved
(whoops Gucumatz is a z at the end, not an s)
there are a few non-puppy demons with Lupa's group mostly because I couldn't find enough
and most of them are somehow related to honor/justice. Sekhmet has a title that's literally "evil trembles before her"
I'd say deino's final evolution looks most like Tiamat if you're talking about DND, what with having three heads and a reputation for being mean as hell
That could be possible, although Tiamat in SMT is more often associated with serpents and fish.
serpents and fish makes me think of Gyarados
Tiamat IS the goddess of salt water.
also, as a consideration Gorebyss or Huntail as those are very much based on deepsea fish
Meanwhile, her counterpart is Bahamut, who's the god of freshwater, and in D&D is the good father of metallic dragons.
ooh Gorebyss or Huntail are good possibilities
I did find in my research that Tiamat was sometimes called 'the shining one' and in one myth after her death her tail became the milky way
Hm... maybe Milotic for Tiamat, then>
oooh that's a great idea too
I was just thinking milotic for a sea serpent goddess vibe
and you could possibly counterpart with dragonair for bahamut
that's possible! Bahamut would be a good name for a dragonair
wish there were more snake Pokemon
Maybe Sandaconda for Coatlicue? since the goddess has earth associations vs. Tiamat's water
(the theme of the wolves in my head is like parental deities ...especially if they also have an association with death, puppies, justice/mediation/guidance, rebirth. you know the usual)
perhaps Minior for Tzitzimitl? they were star deities (that were also apparently women who had died in childbirth) that protected pregnant women and midwives
it's hard to find star pokemon that aren't legendaries
Yeah, Minior would be cute! Or the Clefairy line!
we'll see which Lupa ends up with.
And that just leaves Durga and Pegasis that I don't have ideas for
(Qilin will probably be a Galarian Ponyta/Rapidash unless a better idea comes to me)
Hm... Durga is a devi of war and violence, and she's often depicted riding a lion or tiger.
yeah. maybe there will be a lion/tiger pokemon that isn't fire? because Pyroar probably fits. but Lupa has so many fire mons
(Incineroar also, but again: so many fire mons)
Luxray could be another possibility, I suppose
Yeah, it could. But uh… also Durga is part of a still-living religion, so maaaybe be a little delicate there.
/nod I've waffled about including Durga, honestly.
Hm…. I’m not sure whether this would still be iffy (I am neither a practitioner of Hinduism nor a theologian), but I thiiiiink Durga’s mount has a name?
Yeah, that one is known as Gdon in SMT titles... and is already represented in the games. (and is fire affinity sob)
Gdon
Durga is also represented in SMT, but in Persona 2, rather than DDS
