I’ve been studiously avoiding looking at it because all new evidence suggests that it is going to be Completely Disappointing
sadly, i can't stop looking. failure of the palantir test, that's me
I looked at it and had to look away because TYELPE THEY DID YOU DIRTY
there's a weird star wars prequels vibe, though maybe it doesn't help that alderaan apparently looks like sci-fi gondolin
anyway, i don't know what the hell they're going for with celebrimbor. the man looks as though he's never set foot in a forge in his life
I mean the worst part for me is knowing I will still probably watch it
So I will also fail the palantir test
I don’t think they know what they’re going for with any of it tbh
delatour: tmw shadow of mordor knows how to make an elf look properly forge worth
one day i will get through more than ten minutes of that game.
last time i tried it did not sit well with my computer
I strongly dislike the characterisation of Celebrimbor in that game, but the character DESIGN on the other hand...
I will say I also never played more than a few minutes, so most of what I know is from Lets Plays
Last time I tried I ended up leveling up an orc to like a level 21 boss because I was on playstation (which I don’t own) and the custom controller didn’t have the buttons marked
So basically I died an hour into playing
Honestly if they wanted to make a realistic smith, they need a dude who has one strong arm and one chicken wing arm
anything is better than 'time displaced phantom menace extra'
Time displaced phantom menace extra fits right in with Finrod played by Steve the guy who slices my ham at the deli department
i always thought he looked like the main character of a nineties shakespeare high school au at a renfaire
a dime-store young heath ledger
I can’t take credit for random meat slicing guy alas, someone else pointed it out and I can’t unsee it
It’s going to be like Halo “we didn’t read the source material”
gil-galad... almost works. like, he escaped from a much more interesting version where the writing staff were big labrynth fans and were also high while writing everything
got a bit dinged along the way, alas, but it's almost absurd enough to work on its own
it's actually very jarring to see Gil vs El & Tylpe
This makes sense because jrrt was also probably high while writing Gil galad
that would certainly explain that one moment where he ended up on the feanorian family tree
it allows for lots of fun Gil Galad Son of ?????? fics tho
I still think the Time Travelling Elladan is up there in my faves
as is the "He's Just Some Guy"
random dude gil-galad is best gil-galad
you confirm my decision to never, ever look at this travesty, not even once
bitweaver: no no join us in looking at the train wreck. at the least, you need to see BoyBand Elrond
I've seen young promising galactic senate candidate elrond .... and it was totally enough for me
(not mentioning game of thrones galadriel)
and not mentioning "we're not giving you production budget, you ingrates! this is amazon, you're supposed to pee into a bottle and be happy you can work for us. why would you want money?"
someone on the OneRing comment section described the Celebrimbor promo pic as "someone cast an accountant and put him in LARP robes"
I've seen cosplays a 1000 times better than whatever rags they had to digout from some provincial theatre basement and second hand shops
also let's give all the men short hair because wigs are expensive
and Jeff wants us to earn money not spend it
(i know the look because I've been raiding second hand shops for stuff to dress orcs in for my provincial theatre play ages ago)
bitweaver: the only one with sense
which is weird since you play Fëanor XD i will not say I AM NOT tempted by this trashfire.... I AM
but my hatred towards all things amazon might yet save me
but surely i know a lot about costume and set design failure for someone so clearly NOT interested
But they are spending tons of money. That’s the baffling thing. A huge budget and it still looks bad.
why don't they just hire WETA smh
like. I had ISSUES with the Hobbit movies, but the costumes were On Point
they even had a Galadriel armor design I remember salivating over
I don’t even feel they needed to copy the Jackson designs exactly, but...when something is that beloved because they nailed the flavor, you can’t just entirely ignore it
dying on the long hair hill
or at least feel somewhat enthusiastic about what you're choosing instead. belief in your own work can carry you a long way
maybe that's part of why i'm more positive about the gil-galad. i think it's garish, but at least when they went for a lot, they stuck to it. there's some commitment there
Maybe they’re implying the son of Finrod version
Double the weirdly young aunt vibes for Galadriel, then
they might have a budget, but the question is where that budget is going to? marketing or production
considering everything it looks like marketing
Honestly I wish it was that simple but unfortunately I think there’s a lot more than just it’s all marketing. I think they genuinely have no clue what makes Tolkien Tolkien.
that's for sure, I'm not even questioning this part
