...i thought it was this weekend anyway
it coincided with juneteenth
my sister the professional chef cooked lunch and it was delicious as always; there were bloody marys, which also caused my sister to realize that our little brother is old enough to run out on an alcohol run if needed (she thought he turned 20 this year; she was off by one);
i gave dad a CD/cassette player bc he has all these cassette tapes and his radio is only half-reliable; mom contributed lemon cake; and we all ended up watching guardians of the galaxy 2, which was super fun
i think we mostly agreed that Drax is best
are you gonna see thor for their appearances in that
Rocket is the best, shush. (Drax is pretty great tho)
though i think i heard drax's actor left so i'm not sure if he's in thor or gotg 3
i'm gonna see thor for JANE
excuse me mantis is the best
i keep considering playing her because i don't think ANYONE has
they are in fact ALL the best. except for Quill
no, Dave Bautista is still n Thor and gotG3
whats wrong with quill XD
thank you for the correction
Quill annoys the fuck out of me with his insecure manbaby crap is what's wrong with him
Bautista has been very vocal about hating Drax's arc and wanting out, though, so i'll be shocked if Drax survives gotg3
LOL i actually have a journal for quill, mostly because the username makesweirdshit was available and i had to take that
that's too bad, he's great
I have journals for Rocket and Nebula, my own self, so
i would totally play with either >..
yeah, Bautista is pissed because Drax's arc should have culminated in his killing Thanos and that got taken away. which, fair, it is the logical narrative beat and it does suck that Drax was ultimately denied his vengeance
i wasn't sure about thor's whole arc of "killed a bad guy, got fat because of it"
oh Thor's arc was utter bullshit in Endgame tbh
I honestly never expected Drax to kill Thanos, even if ICly he'd have wanted to. it was always gonna be one of the big players. but it would've been nice if Drax coulda helped maybe
you mean you didn't find fatphobic jokes about weight gain rooted in severe depression and ptsd to be ~~hilarious~~??
honestly the fact he was so upset about it never made sense to me with his arc, either
i guess he's basically a marshmallow so it makes sense with his sensitive he is, but i'm SURE he's killed before
he could have thrown himself in to try and take some of the weight of using the gauntlet like they did with the stone in gotg, only for it to injure him and still not save Tony
his angst isn't over killing Thanos, it's over not having done it in time. Thor has killed many, many enemies
i thought it was over stuff like how nebula looked when he did do it
ah, okay. i mean there's so much shit going on in both movies it's easy to miss a lot of stuff
nah it was over how he'd failed to kill him correctly when he had the chance, failed to save the world from the snap, and then when they made their last-ditch effort to get the stones and undo it they were too late again
Thor had his axe in Thanos's chest, but Thanos said "you should've gone for the head" and snapped anyway
which is why Thor chopped his head off when he did finally kill him. "I went for the head"
I need to... rewatch these movies
our poor golden retriever, honestly
pretty much the only mcu character i understand is wanda right now LOL
like with doctor strange MoM I understand him waiting until the end of the second movie to fix the watch face is Important, but I can't grasp why
oh, that's meant to show that he's no longer hanging himself up on his girl, and he's moving on with his life
see i felt cheapened because i wanted him to get together with alternate christina, and felt that would have represented a proper character growth for both of them
nah they're introducing another of his comic book love interests, the Charlize Theron character from the mid-credits scene
but until we get to know her i'll be mad XD
nice to see theron in the mcu though
i can't remember if cathryn has seen MoM and i am hoping to god she has because otherwise i've dumped a bunch of spoilers on her plurk and i am SO SORRY
haha Cat saw it ages ago, it's cool XD
<3 i saw it opening weekend, babe, no worries
i kept telling my friend letty about MoM and then she was like "i haven't seen it" like weeks after i started spoiling her and i was like WHY DID YOU NEVER TELL ME
also i'm watching the last half hour of infinity war (started it yesterday) and reading this conversation at the same time, which is fun
(me yesterday to my sister: "i need to watch something that makes me happy." cue Knives Out followed by that known moodlifter, infinity war. as Mom put it today after gotg2: "it's nice to see old friends.")
also you're right, Cat, Drax is out after GotG3
... wait how is IW a moodlifter XD
i need to see knives out but i don't know where to stream it
or were you being sarcastic
it is not, that's the joke
you should be able to find knives out on amazon at least to rent
weird that it's not on netflix considering that they produced the upcoming sequel
i have to get a new phone, i can't afford to rent things XD
although i have nearly 4 bucks in google play credit
for some reason you can't apply google credit towards the price of something, you can only use it if you have the entire balance
is this right
i have no idea if the dvdrip has changes from the screener
/finishes iw, dives directly into endgame/ you know, it used to annoy me that watching these movies meant deliberately inflicting thanos upon myself, but the further the mcu moves from the infinity saga, the smaller he feels. like "you were only paring down the one timeline? how quaint. goodbye."
quick, which is worse: what endgame does to thor, or what endgame does to steve
oh god. uh. I want to be biased and say Steve, because my poor Bucky, but over all? I think it's Thor
because it was just so offensive
like, actual living people could've been hurt by that. Steve was just character assassinatino, Thor's mockery was harmful
...wait what did endgame do that was character assassination
but to be fair it was a very long movie
they made him give up on the future and his friends and go back to live in the past where he was unable to change anything to be with a silent trophy version of Peggy Carter
it's infuriating. Steve's arc is about finding his place and moving forward, and Endgame grabs him out of that place and sends him backward, INCIDENTALLY causing him to abandon Bucky, who is basically his reason for living.
why did it post my reply twice
i never thought of that as character assassination before, just a very poor choice
it basically takes everything he is and has stood for over the past however many movies and makes it all invalid
no more "I can do this all day" (the movie even mocks that iconic line) or even "the guy who wanted that went down in the ice in 1945", it's suddenly "I'm tired of all this and want to win the girl and stop fighting"
like, I do not begrudge Steve a potential retirement. but the whole point of The Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron and Civil War was Steve finding his place in the future
learning how to start over, make a new family
but hey, gotta enforce heteronormativity
. . . yes, it might help to watch them again
(also, I am indeed biased because Bucky is my boy and the loss of Steve clearly hit him very, very hard)
(which I cannot imagine Steve wasn't aware of and so he did his stupid thing anyway)
i didn't really enjoy the early marvel movies so i didn't pay much attention
i seem to be alone in that, though
my enjoyment level goes that all i enjoyed out of any movie until infinity war was gotg. revisitng them i like them a little more, but for awhile i was mad that they represented captain america as this super nice guy when in the comics, until they made rthat change, he was very different. but they changed that when the movie depiction got so popular
so that kind of tempered my enjoyment of the first few movies
but i've settled with that now so i might rewatch them
even tony stark they made nicer than his comics version, which is an achievement considering how bad he is sometimes
it's not that i PREFER the comics versions, it's that for awhile i was a stickler about staying to canon LOL
dude, i feel that, we all live there for a while
but if you feel ready to think of the mcu versions as being different characters from the comics versions (which i understand they often are), then you might enjoy diving back into phase one a lot more
i gotta rewatch everything anyway if i wanna properly play wanda
it's one thing to understand her in MoM and wandavision, but another to see where she came from
like the one thing i never got about wandavision was whether she revived her brother from his death or if she took an alternate timeline version of him and basically kidnapped him
that Pietro in WV was not Pietro. he was a random dude who was brainwashed by Agatha into pretending to be her brother, in order to spy on her for Agatha
which is why Wanda spent the whole time going "you look different. I'm confused"
the speed power presumably came from Agatha's magic
so that version of x-men he's from is just plain not canon then
you do need, at the very least, to watch age of ultron along with infinity war and endgame
I mean it might be an AU, but they chose that actor specifically to throw off fans
not as an actual in-universe connection to X-Men
i just wish i could disney + watch party it with someone (actually if you're willing and want to set a date, apparently you can do watch parties through the tv?)
happy to <3 I basically live this stuff, it's my primary fandom, so I know a lot of random shit about it
for some reason i remembered both peters being in wandavision which is just a weird brain hiccup on my part, this is why i'm rewatching wandavision
but tonight is watching nailed it because someone posted a sexual assault photo to my facebook timeline and their excuse was "this is how not allowing abortions feels like, if it triggers you, well the truth hurts" and they refused to take it down or put a warning
it's.... difficult to follow that up with a serious story
Uh. I’m all in for an age of ultron watch party tho
i'm free any day after 5 or any weekend after noon
Weekdays after like 7 eastern and more flexible weekends
i could probably do wednesday
is there any list anywhere of what order to watch in
i'd go with order as released; in-universe chronology is different, but honestly MCU isn't carefully presented enough to make that distinction
yeah release order is probably best. Disney+ actually puts them in release order for you, by phases
I'd join in but Wednesdays are bad for me, and also o
I'm not Eastern like you XD
i mean i need someoen to watchparty at least one of the other movies with me and i'm free other days XD
my attention is bad if someon eisn't holding me accountable
hence why i've only watched two and a half episodes of wandavision in two days
yeah, if we want cacopheny in then weekends are best, she's in ca
like, for clarity, what exactly are you looking for here? for us to watch wanda movies and wandavision, yeah, but anything else?
but anyway wednesday for age of ultron is good
anything you're willing to watch! the wandas ones are ones i need to see but i have the feeling i need to watch more to get the general arc of the universe
i mean. yes. if i had my way we'd start with iron man and work our way forward, but that would take forever in terms of helping you with wanda. we can always go back
i propose age of ultron first to get you back to wanda's start in the mcu, then we can go back for context. maybe movies on wednesdays and wandavision/other d+ shows on weekends, like a couple eps at a time?
although considering i have to go to take my night medicine at 9, it might be better to reverse it
(we'll have to get creative for the incredible hulk and the spidey movies bc rights, but we'll deal when we get there)
oh man i've never seen any hulk movies
that works too! we can pick up wandavision on weds where you left off and do a movie at the weekend
there's only one Hulk movie that's "canon" but it's noto n D+ I think
also, different actor than the one in Avengers onwards
there's only one mcu hulk movie which is only vaguely conical at best LOL YES THIS
i? think i did? but i don't remember it
Ross is introduced I tihnk, and Tony has a cameo, and Abomination is going to be in later movies, but you don't need to have seen it
yeah. Bruce says in Avengers that he "broke Harlem" and that's kind of all you need
anyway, wednesday. wandavision. 7pm. be there or be square.
how do you want to arrange it? like talk over discord, or talk on plurk after one of us makes a plurk and then links the watchparty, etc
ngl i don't know how watch parties work
lemme load up disney+ and see how it generates it on the tv
it just syncs up the video
apparently there's something called teleparty which syncs it and adds a chat, but i've never been able to get it to work
make it a plurk so I can follow along too
I'll be on the clock, and then at my mum's, but I'll have my computer both places, so
okay apparently i can start the watchparty on my tv, but i have to load the website to be able to actually invite you
so basically i think it gives me a url and i link you and it adds you
"Unfortunately, unlike other web-based watch party services, Disney Plus GroupWatch does not currently support native text chat or video chat. Instead, you can react within the Disney Plus apps or web site with a series of emojis."
what... struck them that this was a good idea
are you going to use your laptop or phone or tv?
do you have a messenger/text app on your laptop? i will be using my laptop
so i should message you the link and then start the plurk? or
