And Varré was a war surgeon, implying he was part of an army still functional enough to go out and fight things as opposed to just... stay in their camps or march around for no reason. Seems like it's been a long time since that was the case.

oh TheDoomkitten Varré is definitely interested in whatever it was Sayo did to make her blood safe for Himiko. Given the fact that he's vileblood and all, he needs to consider how to manage that whole business.

and since that was part of the memshare with Himiko, he saw Sayo do something and understood what it meant, but isn't sure how it was pulled off.

The tincture to negate the toxicity of vileblood requires some extract of paleblood, and her findings (and instructions on how to complete each step of the process) can be found in Gaze's academic journals.
