So we just hired a very sweet country girl to the medical front desk where I work

She is very 'nice'

When patients text they have arrived and we have to call them to check them in, she gets terrified if they have a Hispanic name

She feels absolutely sure every single ethnic name means the person does not speak any English

When listening to a coworker speak in Spanish to a pt, she looks at me and says "God, that weirds me out"

She told me she is "very funny" but that she can't tell any jokes at work because people might get "offended"

She, unprompted, told me she has a trans sibling who she consistently misgendered and told me "if you're born a girl I'm going to call you a girl because that's just what I believe"

On a more work related end; she has the memory of a gnat and can barely operate a computer.

She is dyslexic (so am I so...sympathy) and cannot spell, so her communication over the computer is not super great.

She says she recently went blind in one eye, has undiagnosed celiac disease, and has an undiagnosed learning disability but can't treat any of it because of a lack of insurance.

So on all that I feel super bad for her but like...I need her to work and get insurance somewhere else >_>

In brighter work news: They are starting a Gender Health Clinic to coordinate care for our transgender patients and I get to help with it.

I'm sorry you have to contend with that new employee, but that's seriously awesome about the clinic! That's wonderful news
