i don't know what a blorbo is and at this point i am too afraid to ask

eminem.
that's a blorbo. he's your blorbo.
there, that's what a blorbo is shorthand for.

it's a silly nonsense word because the people adopting are by and large aware that it is a silly nonsense experience that they're having that is nonetheless deeply meaningful to them and it sounds incredibly like they're insane when they try to explain it to another person who has no such experience to relate to on a similar wavelength.

yeah i think the particular quiz that's going around is inflected with some kinda like, self-shipping (or at least openness to self-shipping) kinda thing, but broadly it's "character you're obsessed with"
ahhhhh
so it's sort of like how people used "hyperfixation" three years ago but without the neurodiversity connotation?
honestly i think the ND is only intensified but it's less without the "and you must have one or you're trying to Fit In With The Neurotypicals" vibe that carried, at least to me
so when you say Eminem is my blorbo, do you mean "Eminem (celebrity) is my blorbo", "Slim Shady (fictional character) is my blorbo", or "Eminem (body of work) is my blorbo"?
it's definitely got that "yeah, sometimes Brains Are Weird, right?" shrug and a laugh to it, tho
I really don't like using "hyperfixation" casually, it sounds sort of pathologising even if it's genuinely a hyperfixation
i would say the whole corpus - the whole thing there, although i guess the former is the centrality of it
the thing with having a blorbo is it that it seems to also not be an excluding identifier but and including identifier in ways that differ from, say, "comfort character"
explain
because I searched for "blorbo" on twitter and got a lot of Spamton fanart
like having a "blorbo from your shows" means you actually like also wind up being fond of the actor who portrays them, the show they're in, and how it's made, you're generous in your reading of the construction of the medium and genres it works with in regards to understanding the blorbo is not always what it's there to revolve around, it's just the
piece you resonate with
whereas like a "comfort character" can potentially be that but most often means "i have latched onto an interpretation of this character that brings me the Most Joy and i willfully ignore all other ideas or inputs as they are Wrong and do not maximize my joy"
blorbo is like "right, this character actually realigned my sanity in a way that should be deeply embarrassing but was genuinely helpful and now i have to process this for a while"
that awkward, embarrassing, cringe moment when you realize Ah, Shit, I Care About This Fucking Horseshit Garbage Thing I Found And Never Want To Stop
Ah
and at that point describing it as your "favourite" is just pointless
because it's so far beyond liking by that point. even if you hate it, you'll be enriched by it
