I DID actually really like part of that though, because too often people think that if you love someone that thats like...enough? But this movie was good at showing that this family loved each other, FELT that love from the others, but that without good communication that love couldn't solve the actual problems
Also I have so many theories about the mechanics of this movie and why she didn't get a door (or rather, why she got a blank door but when it tried to create her room it vanished, which is a very important distinction)
So the gift they receive seems to be based on their existing interests (based on antonio who was already interested in animals and then bam, doolittle powers) and then they get a room that embodies that desire.
But her desire was centered on "helping her family" and the help they NEEDED (even if it wasn't so severe at that time) wasn't the kind of thing powers can help with, the help that they needed was purely mortal (and therapy)
of course as soon as she DIDNT get powers or a pocket dimension her abuela starts losing it which just made things worse but we wouldn't have a movie otherwise
Bruno drawing a plate for himself so he can pretend to eat with his family may be the saddest most heartwearming thing ive seen in a movie in a long time
