And the fact the paperwork is the easier part of this is kinda sad
OH MAN, THATS SO EXCITING
I'm waiting for the documentation part to hopefully pass before moving on to the second part.
figmented: It is! But also nerve racking as hell. I keep waiting for a rejection letter
Because I did something dumb in the paperwork. And it costs 1-200 dollars to resubmit it if it fails
Holy shit, I didn't think knocking on any countries door would be that expensive
Reasonable, I suppose, considering the international bit
that's so smart, gtfo out while you can
figmented: Ohhh, immigrating to another country is
expensive. Aussieland is more expensive than Canadialand though.
It will cost about.... 3k [rounding up] for the paperwork and verification and video review process to make sure I can actually weld to be able to qualify for a work visa
It's about half of that for Canada. Buuuut Canada is cold
Melbourne, where I want to go, actually gets cold, too, but it's about comparable to VA, where I am, so I'll just suck it up. They have one of the best public transportation systems in the world. I'll take it
pincurls: Not gonna lie, I am definitely running from the potential facist regime and just general fuckery of the US political system.
if my mom wasn't unwell, i'd get the hell out of here
I would say it isn't too early to do the research and get your paperwork and stuff together.
They have age caps in Aussieland. I think it might be 45? Maybe 55? I dunno. I forgot which means it didn't effect me.
But once you pass that age, they don't issue immigration visas or permanent residency[green card]
They're not trying to get retirees who'll be on their health care system lolol, I can understand that
But yeah. I've started the process. It is an expensive process.
For me it's because I'm a welder. The skills assessment for us is just ridiculous, requires videos to record us welding and cutting and... the major problem I have is that I can't take video at work.
Filming and taking pictures if prohibited, so I have to find another place that has all this equipment, and so far I haven't come up with anything reasonable.
huh yeah thats a pain in the ass...can a local school help out?
I called my teacher actually
but with schools and stuff there's waivers and the fact they want you to pay for a class ect
I need to call him again to see if he found someone with the equipment.
Hell, if anyone of you on the east coast knew of someone with a bunch of welding equipment they would let me use, I'd travel to do it on a weekend.
I'm smack dab in the middle of the east coast. 9 hours either way is a friday night trip. Sleep, get up weld sat and sun, then go home Monday.
It would also be a great excuse to visit
aaaaa so exciting, good luck!!!
yes!! I hope so!!
There may be someone around here with the equipment, we've got some artists that do welding work. I can at least cast out some feelers and let you know if something bites.
MammaFerus: I'd appreciate it! I'm looking at shops and stuff around here too. it's annoyingly more difficult than you'd expect
Congrats if it works out!
I can ask around about welding stuff!
Astrobright68: hope your friends know someone! I'm about to buy a welder, is it, then return it 😂
