the latest in the "moving from retail to an office job is fucking wild" saga: my supervisor took time to sit down with me at my cubicle and explain that the security camera across from me is fake, bc "people have worried about that before"
i must have looked super blankfaced as i explained that i hadn't given it a single thought
i'm used to my employers playing big brother, man, i worked retail
the idea that my current employer cares about whether i feel . . . idk . . . like i have a modicum of privacy as i work . . . ? is mindblowing to me
did i assume i was being monitored? yes. did i care? nah, any feelings about that got burned out of me years ago
is this. normal? the not looking over employees' shoulders every second thing?
culture shock is wild
depends on the office tbh. some offices DO kind of monitor you, particularly your computer time. not all though, and mostly the bigger companies
i was told in training that computer use is monitored, but since anything frivolous is blocked anyway, idk the point
