I don't do fandom RP because I don't like playing characters made by other people. It makes me very uncomfortable.
I understand they take on a life of their own and have done fandom things in the past: it's just not my preference.
There are a lot of games that take OCs these days, but yeah, you'll still have to play against fandom characters
If you every wanna dip your toes in DW I can be your senpai
teach me the ways
I'm tempted to say it's easy but then I remember I've been doing it for like 15 years
anything's easy if you do it every day for 15 years lol
Have you every done ANY journal based rp? What's your experience?
Most of my roleplay experience has been messengers and tabletop. I always find journal roleplay overwhelming with its own language and rules and I'm afraid I'll get in trouble with a whole community when I mess up.
I'm the imposter. I hide in the vents.
Mainly at Victory Road, it's a jamjar in the Pokemon universe
You'll notice on his actual journal there's really only contact info and character info
These days actual game content goes on in the community, not individual journals
aside from his in-character inbox, which is basically where any private story lines happen. I try not to do too much playing in there though because I want to be open and visible to the whole community
A Jamjar is an RP where characters are pulled in from their worlds to take part in a new one
so they're like, wtf, where am I, what is this
and you get to have them adjust however you like
All characters have what is basically a smartphone hooked up to the internet where they can communicate with each other virtually, but of course they can interact in person too
okay makes sense! so journals act more as like...just character profiles and contact points.
thanks for your time by the way! I appreciate
No prob bob, I'm here to help
Because of the nature of the jamjar, which is in this case the Pokemon world (specifically, the characters are limited to travel only in Kanto/Johto because lol anything more would be unmanageable) every character is going to take it differently
Kazuki, for example, being from modern Japan, had a really smooth entry because Kanto/Johto is based on Japan anyways
but Jean, who grew up in a pre industrial nightmare, had a lot to learn
Anyways, the most common way to interact is to make "posts" which are kinda like blogs/vlogs where other characters can leave comments, or "logs", which are usually in-person interaction between characters
OH, and there's two types of writing RP
You'll noticed that sometimes it's just plain ol' prose, like what you'd read in a book
but sometimes it's in what we call "brackets" where it'll be like
The dialog is in normal text, but the actions the character is taking are in [brackets]
both ways are equally accepted, it's just a preference thing
you'll notice that most posts use the title line to distinguish what kind of reply they're making, like if it's video or just text
nowadays it's also common to use a courier font to denote plain text
why courier specifically :0
//random drive through
if you used a dnd or table top oc, thhat'd be an easy in to rping with other people. Plenty of people around here also do table top.
lucineblue: no I appreciate the info!! that's really good to know. it might even be easier for me because I have dyscalculia.
I have no idea why courier lol, I guess because it looks like a type writer??? I don't make the rules, I just follow them!!!
that's the gist of everything tho. You also usually have to read the faq and rules and find a password hiding in there so the mods know you did, and then pass an application. Applications are basically just to confirm you are playing on canon (if you're playing a fandom character) and that you can write decently
the ones at VR are really easy in my opinion. Back in the day things were more strict in general, nowadays it's just a cursory thing
we're getting too old to care lol
