Took the kiddo to a local farm that's been made into a sort of petting zoo today!

And TIL that sheep sometimes sound a lot like a human loudly making what I would have thought of as an unconvincing impression of a sheep.

The lambs were weirdly skittish and kept running away from me whenever I tried to feed them. The goats, kids included, had absolutely no qualms about coming right up to people if there was food in it for them.

The place gave us a grain and pellet mixture inside ice cream cones, which they noted were also okay for the animals to eat. I had one snatched away from me by an emu while I had my head turned.

Moxana: She held a black one too at one point, and I could have sworn I took a picture of it, but can't find it now.

Also, the award for most terrifying animals they had there, by a mile, went to... the turkeys. Things were huge, and had a habit of suddenly and loudly flapping at each other out of nowhere. I suspect some form of dominance display.

man, putting the food in ice cream cones seems like a perfect solution, what an honestly brilliant idea

also it reduces litter if some careless people don't want to throw away a paper cup

Also very helpful in the event of small children who want to shove their entire portion of feed, container and all, in the direction of one lucky animal. Which she did, several times. We ended up buying like 10 extra cones of the stuff.
well yes of course, how else do you get the animals to like you :-D

Their enclosure was next to one for geese, so I was paying attention to what kiddo was doing with those and holding the cone to my side... apparently just a little too close to the emu.

And yes, I still stand by what I said about they turkeys even though there were emus.
at least those emus can't start a war

Probably not with only two of them. (Both male, if I heard the names correctly.)
