All canon ships in the #wingsoffire books. All have an age gaps or are qualified by some parts of the fandom as child/adult relations (what's the AoC of a dragon in the middle of a massive world war?).
Fun fact: I actually don't like any of these ships, except Tsunami/Riptide (which people call "student/teacher" because Riptide taught her aquatic... as a peer, not a proper professional but w/e). Even then I'm only "eh" on it. I do want Firefly (Glorybringer) to exist tho, soooooo....
Anyway, the point: Tui clearly does not give a fuck. The dragons are treated as adults the second they are capable of fighting. They are thrown into war as soon as they are coherent (1-2 years old, apparently, according to the second arc-- if the age of Anemone is actually correct lmfao). Plus...
They age very fast. Anemone is claimed to be 1yo in book 2, and is being trained with her powers. She is treated like a glass canon. She is active and coherent in a way many young children aren't-- I'd put her around 12-13 in BEHAVIOR at this time.
People keep saying 6-7 is the "adult" age of the dragons in WoF, but I haven't found that confirmed anywhere. People also are saying Deathbringer's age is a mistakewhich I don't believe for a second but I've found no sources where Tui says as much.
I think, as they are dragons in a totally different culture with a totally different rate of aging, it is disingenuous to attribute "human" ages to them. In the same way saying a 2yo dog is a 14yo human, or whatever (as you can breed a dog at 2yo according to breeding associations for purebreds, but not younger).
Oh! Clay/Peril baby would be cute even if I hate their dynamic. Even though I did like Peril after book 8 I still dislike her reliance on Clay for being a "good person" and her desperate need to be loved and accepted by him. But that's because I'm hyper-independent, personally.
Oh yeah-- also, if Darkstalker is 5 when he's put to sleep, then he's mentally 5 when he wakes up. IDK why people be thinkin' he mentally aged during any of that, which in and of itself would have been interesting to explore (stares distantly at Peacemaker).
