Yes it was. I am sure everyone would appreciate knowing that one student in my class... not the brightest bulb once asked him "Why did Severus Snape do (insert some action here)?"
Not about why he chose to play the character a certain way, or what he thought about it. But like he was actually Snape. He looked puzzled and after a moment he said "you do know.... my name is Alan, right?" It took the entire class to not bust out laughing.
He sat on top of tables and rarely used his chair. When asked why he said "it feels nice to be above people... physically speaking, of course."
He had to have a security guard with him at all times, and they took our phones at the door for his class. Two rabid Harry Potter fans years prior jumped on top of him, and he was not a fan to say the least. To make sure he didn't leave he requested protection.
People also kept trying to film him/take photos of him when he was teaching (which I couldn't even imagine why you would think that is ok) and he hated that. So reasonably so, they made sure none of that ever happened again.
He said that he auditioned for a commercial when he was starting out and the casting director after rejecting him said "he sounded like the tail end of an exhaust pipe, nobody wants to hear that." Instead of being embarrassed he was determined to make his voice an advantage and to prove that casting director wrong. I'd say he accomplished that.
I asked him quite a few questions. The less technical one was other than Snape, and Gruber (which he was very aware were his most popular characters) what was a role he really had fun with.
He said Metatron from Dogma was a ton of fun to play/he kept almost cracking up on set, and Galaxy Quest is one of the most clever films ever made. His first TV Shakespeare role was Tybalt, so he has a soft spot for the character.
His philosophy was never to play a villain as a villain/write them that way, or you have already failed. You go into a role figuring out what makes that character human, what they want, why they want it, and what is identifiable about that.
His favorite beers were a local brew called 'OXford Gold,' which I can personally confirm is delicious. Also, New Castle Ale from the tap.
Hope y'all found these tidbits interesting.
