Substance painter is really a piece of crap. I like what it can do but it's so bloody unstable and incompatible with too many other bits of software that I need to have installed

it does what substance does without any of the nonsense, is compatible with everything (even had a native SL export format at one point.)

I will say their religious uhh... excerpt definitely turned me away from trying last I saw, too. But it does seem like a decent program otherwise.

yeah usually I can pick someone with a religious leaning because it kind of oozes out of them. It's gushing out of this guy. It's worse now than it was a few years ago when it just said in their terms of use to not make anything that might upset jesus :|

ive been using 3d coat since the guy was alone making it at home about a decade ago. in that time ive never once had religion or faith become part of the equation. i supported him because its a great small company that doesnt screw people over like substance did me when they got too big for their britches.

i could care less what his religious beliefs are. that does not affect the software which is basically half zbrush and half substance

ive emailed the guy a couple times for various reasons and he did not proselytize or quote scripture. he did give me a free update way beyond my past due. Nice guy overall.

I’m not worried about being converted. I have long held a principle of not supporting religious organisations if I can avoid it. I don’t even buy the good milk, because the company prints a Jesus fish on the packaging. Maybe that’s petty, but I just don’t want to give my money to overtly religious companies. /shrug

I would have tried it ages ago, I’m sure it’s very good, but the overt religiosity on his page is a problem for me.

Plus the licence agreement to not use it for anything that would be bad according to his beliefs. Not sure he would agree with me making very detailed nude female skins with his software :-)

So I guess I’ll stick with crashy, opaque substance painter for the time being. Maybe I’ll check out quixel mixer again.
