I have a Maitreya body but don’t use BoM. I got the latest Maitreya update the other day (but haven’t touched it yet) which includes BoM. To use this, will I have to edit my body shape from scratch and then add the new body to every outfit I have individually?
Keep in mind, I am hopeless with all things technical.
Thanks is advance.
same body shape. if you use firestorm, you can replace the link in your saved outfits- but the important thing about BoM is actually your _skin_
back in ye olden days, we wore Skin clothing layers, and that changed our skins, not appliers! that's what BoM uses again.
are you using a BoM mesh head?
Oh god
Allegory: I don’t know. I have a ‘Catwa Jessica’ head, and the only skin I have is the one my Maitreya body came with, I hate never bought a skin... that’s way too scary. I only learnt how to use an applier not that long ago!! (I think you might have taught me.. maybe lol).
most, if not all, catwa heads have been updated to be BoM compatible, it's a button in the HUD. you will need a _skin_ (or skin + tattoo layer, as heads and skins are now separate from many brands, one will be for the head, the other for the body) for both of them. i'd say go around and pick up some demos from places, head home and try them out.
with BoM, you will be able to wear skins and makeup not expressly made for your head, you can wear _any_ skins and tattoos. skins made for your head/brand are more likely to look _good_ though, skin makers tend to say what brand the skins are for still. but you will be able to layer anything you want OVER it, as much as you want- so eyeshadows, eyeliner,
eyebrows, lipsticks, etc. can be added with a lot more flexibility AND your hair alphas won't be able to screw them up anymore. (catwa also has an HD layer for makeup that still uses appliers, which will go over everything else you choose on clothing layers)
also important: take off your alpha layers when you use BoM. you no longer have to alpha out your head and body entirely.
wearing the mesh part automatically hides the body underneath- you can wear selective alpha layers with SOME BoM parts (they have to be configured properly, your head is not configured properly so it'll turn red when you have it hidden- when configured right, wearing a full alpha hides your mesh parts too!)
Oh dear lord.
So... I like how I look. I don’t really want a skin. Is it worth me updating to BoM at all? You can put stockings on as a layer rather than with an applier with BOM right? That’s probably all I’ll use it for. lol
I appreciate your help so much... but your extensive knowledge might be wasted on me. lol
yeah, anything applier will be moving to BoM, eventually you'll be limited in what you can wear. i don't think you need to be in a huge rush, but it is something you'll probably need to tackle eventually.
BoM is still only half supported by the mesh _parts_ even- maitreya has pretty much followed through, but it's still a semi hybrid situation while people are transitioning, and most of the head brands are still winging it. once it's done, it'll be more flexible- and also more limiting if you don't switch to it, as even mesh clothing will become more
difficult to wear without moving to it. but i don't expect we'll see people taking advantage of that for some time yet.
Thankyou so much
Allegory: you are always so generous in sharing what you know. xx
(meantime, keep an eye out for free skin promos, grab them when you see them to test drive the system at your leisure)
i love BoM BUT i have a large inventory of old stuff pre-mesh so i've been enjoying wearing skins that haven't been available in years again, on something smoother, as well as caking on the makeup and tattoos
(and layering multiple tights, wearing old shirts, etc) also with appliers i was ALWAYS forgetting what my layers were and it drove me nuts.
If you're using a skin for the body that came with the Maitreya Lara, you can get the tattoo layer of that skin as BoM. It's in a folder or link with the new version of the body, so you don't have to go skin shopping and demo-ing.
The thing I have to keep getting used to is that if I want to use an applier for clothing or stockings or whatever, I have to remember to wear the "underwear layer" or the "tattoo layer" that now comes with the body, then use the applier.
