"The Law of Moses" by Amy Harmon
My ratings: ★★★★☆ (4 Stars)

Mysteries. Family bonds. Overcoming of loss. And unconventional romance.

These elements were perfectly put into the story with beautiful and warm-hearted writings, which made me cried a few times over the pages.

Here are my favorite quotes:

"People liked religion but they didn’t want to have to exercise any faith. Religion was comforting with all its structure and its rules. It made people feel safe. But faith wasn’t safe. Faith was hard and uncomfortable and forced people to step out on a limb."

"You can be crazed with grief and not crazy at all."
"The dead didn’t care about land or money or the heirloom that had been passed down through the generations. But they cared desperately about the people they left behind. And it was the people that called them back. Not because the dead weren’t adjusting, but because their loved ones weren’t."

"...for the first time, my painting wasn’t for the dead. The painting wasn’t even for Eli. It was for me. I wanted to make him permanent. And I wanted to give permanence to Georgia."
