[Higurashi, again.] So, I once again plurk once more after ages pass... to plurk about Higurashi again. The new anime released last week, there was some new scenes. Then an online listing of it happened and now the rest of this is spoilers. Click on this plurk to be like "oh... whoa" because this alone says everything about the anime.
Amazon JP listed the series as Higurashi no naku koro ni Gou. The arc is Onidamashi. It's not a remake.

Amazon JPs prime streaming service listed episode 1 as "Onidamashi chapter, part 1". Onikakushi meanwhile is the first proper chapter of Higurashi, in VN, anime, manga and probably other formats. Many people saw this as a potential more accurate retelling of the story, thus a remake of the anime as it were, especially as it uses the same OST
The name, combined with some interviews with Ryukishi (the author of Higurashi) and some odd scenes in ep1 point to all of this being something we haven't seen before.

People were honestly expecting more time put into the characters because it says something about the quality of Higurashi itself when the og anime left out so much and still had something enjoyable.
And for the sake of what these mean, Onikakushi is like spirited away by demons, a very common theme in the series. Onidamashi is... deceived by demons? Which... yeah thats pretty fitting considering the circumstance.
Like, Higurashi Kai, deens second part to it's series, had to have a retconny anime only thing at the start just to set things straight so that the rest of the series made sense, if I remember it correctly.
