Just finished reading this book in one day and I absolutely loved it. I was also a teen full of angst, even until now, to be honest. What happened to Shirin reminds me, perhaps I should be less judgemental to others and interact with them in a more positive way. It's better to give it a chance other than fearing what the outcomes might be.
Overall, the story is good. However, I'd like to see more backstories of Shirin's family (Muslim culture in particular) than romance don't get me wrong, the romance is beautifully written, and I like the moments they shared since the romance wasn't that unique and could be applied to many other YA stories.
"I thought women were gorgeous no matter what they wore, and I didn’t think they owed anyone an explanation for their sartorial choices. Different women felt comfortable in different outfits. They were all beautiful."
"I wondered, then, what it would be like to live in his brain. I wondered how safe and normal a life he must’ve lived in order to say something like that, so casually, and really, truly, believe it. Sometimes, I wanted to say to him, for some people, it really was the end of the world."
"Ocean had given me hope. He’d made me believe in people again. His sincerity had rubbed me raw, had peeled back the stubborn layers of anger I’d lived in for so long. Ocean made me want to give the world a second chance."
