I did it, I watched cars drive all day. I feel like the series might have peaked with episode two which is a bit unfortunate, although the two episode arc about gasly & albon was interesting.
Not very much at all of best boy Bottas which isn't surprising, absolutely nothing of Racing Point which was surprising.
I love Checo and Lance both, so I was pretty disappointed that they had... I think one entire spoken line between them all season? Although weirdly enough it was the closing line of the show, so grats for that Lance, hahaha
Sad there wasn't anything of Alfa either. I'm not really invested in Kimi or Giovinazzi, but it's still a shame to see an entire team bypassed. I can't imagine it's very easy to get much conversation out of Kimi, admittedly, but he's still a fan favourite. It might have been interesting to do an episode focused on him and Kubica as "the old guard", maybe?
Although actually Hamilton is the same age as Kubica as well.
That is... not super obvious from looking at them :x
vs.
anyway let's stop ragging on that poor man, shame on me
So yeah, I expected not to see much of Bottas, but I was surprised at some of the other exclusions. I'm sad there was only one line from Kvyat as well.
Actually REALLY, Kvyat seems like a real missed opportunity and an interesting parallel to run alongside Gasly's arc?
They're both Red Bull program drivers who were promoted to the main team and then dropped back down to Toro Rosso again—a demotion no matter how PR tried to paint it.
For Kvyat it was enough of a blow to his psyche that he chronically underperformed going forward, until he was completely dropped. Ferrari picked him up as a test driver, which let him just about keep his foot in the door, but most everyone agreed his time in F1 was probably done.......
...... and then this year he was unexpectedly brought back into Toro Rosso amidst massive speculation of whether he could live up to a second chance. Many felt he'd been done harshly the first time around, and just as many felt he was taking a seat from fresher better talent.
But return he did, and it was an upwards trajectory that culminated in quite possibly the greatest weekend of the man's life—the birth of his first child, and a shock podium finish that no one saw coming. An incredible rise from the ashes!
Parallel that with Gasly, who seemed to be mirroring Kvyat's story perfectly. Started at Toro Rosso, promoted up to Red Bull Racing but was demoted in favour of another driver who seemed to instantly perform better than he'd been able to in the same car.
Was Gasly doomed to repeat the same cycle? Would he dropped from Toro Rosso at the end of the year, succumbing to the same psychological weight that had tormented Kvyat two years before? And if he was dropped, could he honestly expect the second chance that so many people felt Kvyat hadn't deserved?
But instead Gasly performed better in the Toro Rosso, and ALSO managed a surprise podium by the end of the season, making it a fantastic year for the Toro Rosso boys.
Kvyat and Gasly had such similarities and then such differences in their stories but both ultimately culminated in uplifting success.
It Could Have Been Great, Netflix. It Could Have Been Great.
I'm sorry ur show let you down babes
Oh no, oops, I actually enjoyed it a lot! I had a lot of fun watching, hahaha, I guess this was all a bit negative wasn't it.
I think some of pacing/"narrative" choices could have been smoother, but all in all I loved seeing all that Behind the Scenes stuff, and it was fun getting to enjoy my stupid cars again.
