I feel if like Kokichi really did intend to seriously frame Kaito with the poison red herring, he would have picked one that wasn't so easily disproved, what with the bloodshot eyes detail.
Oh hey, maybe Miu was strangled with the toilet paper! It would explain why she was clutching at her throat...
Pfffffffft Miu's portrait
Aw jeez, I really hope Kokichi didn't manipulate Gonta into killing Miu... :<
And somehow, Monokuma inherited Himiko's complete lack of energy while we weren't looking.
Okay, so Miu was the one who planted the bottle to throw suspicion off herself had her murder gone according to plan.
...yeah, that whole chapter was just everyone playing catch with the Idiot Ball.
And it's refreshing that everyone is finally calling Kokichi out on all his bullshit
There does seem to be extra emphasis on Shuichi being everyone's best hope for surviving the class trials this chapter.
Combine that with Kaito telling Shuichi not to put everything solely on his shoulders and Maki telling him that he's Shuichi first and a detective second...
This is all going to blow up in everyone's faces soon.
(And Kokichi is deliberately not helping on the "put all this pressure on Shuichi" front.)
Lol at the "vehicle" animation with the v and e tires
Is Kokichi trying to set himself up as like, the only one Shuichi can rely on in this game?
Aaaaand Kiyo's creepy incest thing lives on!
(And then we'll discover that the baby's father is one of the dead Monokubs!)
Tsumugi. Honey. Why do you have to be so bluntly honest?
It's a good thing, but it's the wrong time for it.
So is this going to lead to Shuichi doubting himself because he's been lying on all the trials, even if it was to protect everyone?
Or will everyone else start doubting him instead?
...huh. Is Kokichi going to make a false confession that seems airtight to fool the others and keep Shuichi from continuing with the trial?
Drag everyone else down with him out of spite?
I feel like he wouldn't go for a kamikaze strategy like that, though. Not unless he was pushed a lot further...
Oh, so we're finally addressing what that cutscene was all about!
...ohhhh, fuck no. Gonta's cables were the ones that got swapped, or the memory cable didn't get plugged in, or something.
That's why he's been so confused about everything that happened in the virtual world, and why he thought everyone just went to sleep--he didn't remember any of what happened!
I bet it had something to do with Monokuma's planted motive, too. Like, claiming Miu was going to murder everyone else, so Gonta killed her to save the others.
This really is a repetition of the "killing to protect everyone" theme, isn't it? ;^;
GAH NIGHTMARE FACE GETS ENHANCED
And that's why Kokichi asked about what happens if there's a tied vote for who the blackened is...
Because he knew enough people would consider him the "real" killer to tie the vote, right?
No, Kokichi. The truth is that you're an absolute bastard who manipulated Gonta into becoming as much of a victim as Miu. Fuck you.
Yeah, that's it. Gonta didn't remember anything that happened while they were in the virtual world...
...oh no. "Right is the hand you hold your chopsticks in."
Gonta is left handed, isn't he? :<
...no. Gonta used the toilet paper to get down from the roof...
...it's a nice touch that we're fighting Kaito in the Argument Armament.
Seriously though, Kokichi has no right to act like he has the moral high ground when he's the one who went to Monokuma and set all this up.
Is this part of what flashback!Shuichi was going on about? "I want to die..."
Again, fuck you, Kokichi.
"I'm gonna put on this whole spiel about how Kaito sucks for being willing to die if it means not sinking to my level, but I want to live, damn it!...
"All while I manipulated Gonta into trying to mercy kill everyone else."
"I had to have Gonta kill her! It's not like I could have refused to enter the Virtual World, or just stayed away from Miu, or logged out and poisoned her if I was that serious about killing her!"
Yeah, I'm in the "fuck you, Kokichi" camp after all that. Like, it's going to take some really impressive writing to make him even remotely redeemable as far as I can tell.
The YouTube commenters seem to believe Kokichi meant it about wanting to die with Gonta and feeling bad about what he'd done, but I think he really is that sociopathic.
After all that, the only thing that made the ending a little bit bittersweet was how everyone rushed to Kaito's aid and ignored Kokichi.
And I just want to see Gonta and Mami Tomoe having tea together. Two characters who were manipulated by someone else, led to realize just how screwed they and their friends were, and tried to be merciful the only way they could think of.
End of chapter four Kokichi is my least favorite Kokichi, uuugh. Still, I wouldn't say he's sociopathic so much as I'd say he's fucking nuts.
Gonta deserved better, though. He was the only real victim here.
Fair enough.
Gonta deserved so much better. ;^;
