I've never done one of those introduction plurk things, so I'm gonna because I wanna. Not that I have many friends on Plurk, because I fail at it, but might as well try!
HI. I'm Cara, I'm 31, 32 in April. I live in Alberta, Canada, thought I am from Nova Scotia, Canada, and have also spent some time living in Ontario.
I'm a Communications Adviser for a non-profit that works to develop policy recommendations to the provincial government on air and water issues, though collaborative, consensus-based negotiation. Climate Change is keeping us in business for now.
I'm a Krav Maga enthusiast, not the military kind because I'm not that badass. But it's adapted to be used for civilians to help yourself feel a little more prepared for shit situations. So I learn elements of boxing, BJJ, gun disarms, knife defense, multiple opponents, and how to learn to recognize different levels of violence.
I'm also attempting to be a yoga enthusiast. I just completed day 20 of a 30 day challenge I'm doing, and I hope to keep that up. I use to be a swimmer (which I need to get back to) and play Rugby.
My RP life kicked off forever ago on (what I think was)
Home - Harry Potter Wish List. So I started off RPing Harry Potter, I think I was in my early teens then, I can't remember. I then moved to GreatestJournal, then InsaneJournal. I never really got into LiveJournal, though I think I tried once.
I have one cat, her name is Zora. Named after the Zorya sisters from American Gods.
Between work and Krav and RP I don't have a lot of time left, but I am about to start trying to learn coding, starting with C++ so we'll see how that goes.
Also on the job hunt because my current work environment/culture is the worst.
I like baking, reading, writing, sketching (sometimes) and my friend just got my a SNES which I am VERY excited about and I'm hoping to have some time this week to hook that up and start playing. Friends are awesome, especially when they give you things like that for no reason.
IDK that's it. I also love bread, gin, wine and with that I'm making myself hungry.
pretty kitty!!
thank you I love her little face to bits 😁
Where are you looking to learn coding?
I'm mulling over whether I should branch out to back-end coding like C++, etc, myself. I'm brushing up on front-end stuff like CSS3 and JavaScript.
Yeah, I've done some classes there, codecademy, LinkedIn Learning, and CodeSchool for front-end stuff, just curious if there's a preference for back-end coding. I prefer CodeSchool for front-end, personally, but haven't looked at any back-end.
There was this massive sale from a place called StackSkills. The whole course load was normally around $1300.00 but I got it for $40.00. I’m hoping it works out
I might look into that sometime. Let me know how it goes!
