Keeping the nephew from wreaking havoc was a challenge even for two adult-ish people.

Coaching the kid on grocery money strategy, shopping cart etiquette, and kid wrangling at the same time.

I even had teenage muscle to handle the lifting and chasing.

I do have mom superpowers (eyes in back of head, handling minor disasters on the fly, etc.)

But I am no supermom.

And I've done practically nothing to help clean up or take care of the puppy, or the other kid.

I'm about ready to go back to sleep, after sleeping 11 hours last night after two hectic days.

Okay, puppy out of the crate and watching her in the backyard. 5 yo needs more watching, he wanders and does dumb things and lies about it.

Nobody is training the puppy not to jump on people, not to chew everything, not to bite.

They're working on potty training and that's pretty much it.

even if you're at your absolute best and etc etc etc kids are still huge resource sinks, in all ways (doesn't mean it's not worth it, but that still doesn't change the "resource sink" part)

In the short term (2 decades) it almost completely erased my ability to pursue my own interests. Or hang out with people.

I don't know if or when I will push my kid out of the nest, but I don't know if I'll figure out how to adjust. XD

I won't miss the kid, I'll just forget what it's like to be able to plan for doing what I want, when I want.
