you'd have interest boards for a thing and then a dedicated rp board. So people would set up games as threads and you join / need to apply in the 'planning thread'. SPOILERS IT WAS A MESS
Imagine an entire game in one comment thread. That’s forum RPing.
also the person running it was usually flying by the seat of their arse and had a story in mind but then everyone else had a story idea from the premise and wanted to do that.
I feel like the forum RP I was involved in was very different than what most people participated in
See we had different main forums with sub forums in each for specific areas
So, say you have Country A
Within Country A you then have sub forums City 1, City 2, City 3. Then people can roleplay within each of those sub forums
Then you create over main forum areas for different countries/areas/etc
It was so much easier to organize than journal rps |D;;
My experience came from a Sonic board when I was... about 13? So you can imagine the quality I was displaying there 8v And since it wasn't primarily a roleplay place, that's probably why it was so different to what you're describing Wolfeh. But that sounds interesting o:
That was probably more like proboards. That's how proboards was back when I started
Back on Cloud Wolf Valley and stuff :'D
Invisionfree was my home base for a long time and it was really easier to manage and organize stuff.
I get so confused when people talk about forum RP being a mess... imo journal RP is the mess. Things get lost so easily.
I know both forms of forum RP
because I remember Gaia Online lmao
but also know a few times when I was invited to a couple of guilds or off-site RPs that did the same idea of subforums
I remember. It's where I first started RPing at all. Back in high school.
^ same for me. Just, what a trip. i dread to find those old accounts tbh
I was trying to find one of my old games to show you what our layouts were like but I think If May have finally ate all of them
like I went from that style of forum play, to instant messages, to journal/ dwrp
Which is why I always get confused when people talk about forums being disorganized
but yeah, the forums I started on had a RP board just as a side thing, so it was never taken seriously or closely monitored. There were mods for it, to sort out disputes and get rid of clearly not allowed material but it was nothing like the games being run
