now that i've got a ton of free time on my hands, i'm wanting to expand some of the d&d newbie teaching stuff to some things on youtube -- but in order to get a custom youtube URL that isn't just a random string of numbers, i apparently need 100 subscribers. :u
i am up to 45, because my friends are patient and indulge my weird hobbies.
if a couple of you could ~like and subscribe
HERE i would super duper appreciate it. and if you would like to be notified when i hit 100 so that you can unsubscribe, just pp me!!
no hard feelings at all, i could not care less about subscriptions.
i just want an easy URL to link on my website.
i have no idea!! i just want a channel url that isn't UC65ShEU1TOiwxPg6QZ0JD7Q
"yeah sure i've got some helpful stuff it's at youtube dot com slash UC65ShEU1TOiwxPg6QZ0JD7Q do you need me to repeat that."
i guess my old personal channel just got grandfathered in to having a custom username account. i didn't realize getting an alias was such an Ordeal.
done + i told some friends to do it too
In the meantime you could use a Tinyurl link with a custom url at the end?
I actually don't have content ready yet -- I honestly anticipated getting 100 subs would take a week or more, ha.
I took some time off because of work getting so busy, but I just got laid off because of $25m budget cuts to the university, so - I hope to start these back up soon. :')
I have been looking for newb friendly dnd things, this is right up my alley
Done. I would actually love to see what you come up with for your videos since I want to start my own campaign
dramatically slams down 100th subscription
it literally only gave me the option to change it to youtube dot com/c/guildenfern but that was way better than youtube dot com slash UC65ShEU1TOiwxPg6QZ0JD7Q
i've just been thinking about wanting to get into dnd so like perfect timing tbh
well that is what i specialize in!
I'll have to hit the little bell button too
Now you won't be able to get rid of me
Oh lord, don't do that, ha. I don't even know what exactly I'm going to be posting yet. I thought I'd have time as an excuse to procrastinate, ha.
But in all seriousness, I don't mean to rush you. I just don't want to miss any videos you'd put up
Since I am a D&D newb and need some direction
oh nah, not a rush at all <3 I appreciate it!
I need to get with some newbs and figure out what do you actually want to know, what would be useful and entertaining for you
Well, I personally want to start my own campaign. I have a pdf of the player and monster guide, but I think I'm still missing a GM guide or something?
I have some experience playing D&D, just not a whole lot
when i first started just making a character was the most confusing thing
too
yeah!! when i do one-shots i have a big collection of premade characters
because making your own characters is great but a lot of experienced folks forget how overwhelming it is when you have no context for anything
a good solid overview of the currently available classes/races/etc from all the different source books would be a great video honestly
i definitely remember how hung up i got on the mechanical differences between intelligence and wisdom, haha
trying to double check lists from all the various sources every time i want to make a character concept is a nightmare, and i imagine it's even more daunting to new players who don't know where to start
a video entirely devoted to how important d20s are
in seriousness i feel like something that talks you through a round of game play so that people can see how simple actually playing is vs all the information
Do a video rating each of the polyhedral dice
A video on finding a group, especially in real life, would be really nice
Rate everything on a scale 0-10 Gygaxes
A video on tips for finding a group without creeps would be even better, but I won't ask for the moon
rate dice by their "found it in the dark with your bare foot"-feel
(no dont do that, love yourself)
A video breaking down different action types would rock, I've seen tons of players get tripped up by what they can or cannot do. Maybe as part of combat, maybe not?
clicking on any of those items will pop up a further explanation of them. there is also this:
OH MAN the clickables on the first one are totally unclear but GREAT
by unclear do you mean the fact that you can click on them is unclear, or something else?
The fact that they're clickable at all
yeah. it would be helpful if they said so on the page, but that's why I added that. XD
the second image is weird because "interactions" seem more like light flavor stuff and there... aren't reactions??? and bonus actions aren't often second attacks unless its like a dual wielder or a monk flurry but that's just me nitpicking
imo anything that keeps it from being blocks of text for people is a good thing
yeah. it's just a basic flowchart. the interactions are straight out of the PHB, though. it does say for the bonus action that it's a second attack OR an ability/spell.
i would also love a 'newbie to dming' special just in terms of organisational tips and tricks. esp bc not everyone buys a dm screen or even uses the content on it if they do. its very trial and error as i discovered myself but things like 'running initiative' and 'tracking your monsters in battle'
(also the flowchart was a freebie on the Dungeon Master's Guild. not anything I made. XD)
flashily:
holy shit that is the most useful D&D tool i've ever seen
i want more interactive quick reference sheets for everything
isn't it? my DM
centerfold shared it with our group last month and I've had it open in a tab during every session since. XD
if anyone knows of any more like that i would die for them
not quite a ref sheet but I love
this page for sifting through the bazillion spells across all 5e books to figure out what is/isn't viable for classes, or for what an NPC may have at their disposal
it doesnt have descriptions for all of them but that's where
this entire wiki comes in
^ echoing the greatness of that wiki. everything on it is referenced to what source material it comes from and the text is accurate.
also its got great stuff for DMing hehe
this is my bestiary of choice because it has SO MUCH but it's just statblocks and abilities, no flavor/fluff... which is fine if you just decide to reskin something instead
also the engl393 wiki I linked above is basically the best source for 5e-Official Content, and they've done a great job of incorporating content from other books (Xanathar's) and the Unearthed Arcana supplements, so it makes indecisive character creation choices (archetype, background) a lot easier
somehow I forgot that page existed, swiping that for my own use. thanks!
This might have come up already but I'd like more information on how combat works. Especially on the side of the GM and the NPCs the PCs are fighting. What goes into deciding if a PC gets a hit and stuff like that
