I forgot that part of office job
Hopefully someday they'll pay me and then I will understand the office job
So far though the realest benefit of tech office job vs. fashion office job is getting to go home
And I don't even think that's because I'm a minimum wage intern
Hopefully the benefit of making enough money to actually survive off of will feel a lot better too tho!!
what was your previous job like? My only comparison is the memory of transitioning from service to an office job and it is buckwild
It waaaas a weird combo of office beurocracy and fashion industry brainwashy "this has to be your life, you're so lucky to be here at 7pm recoloring images of kids khakis to sell to Costco Canada"
With a healthy dash of NYC "where could you possibly want to be that isn't work"
why is so much work culture so weird
like this is one of those things I was startled to find was actually real when I entered the adult workplace?? lmfao
and living in the time we live in, and also being in the bay area, I am astounded I avoided the Startup Culture Trap
Yeah the nice thing about Seattle tech is so many people here have been in tech for 10-20+ years and have kids and don't want to do the workaholic startup culture thing so it's very like cubicles but also work life balance because they all have soccer practice to get to
that actually sounds amzing
its weird to see the pendulum swing re: work culture.. way too far into the Live Your Passion attitude.. so much so that it isn’t genuine anymore
and that somehow you’re less for like.... not wanting your work to be your entire identity and your work friends to be your entire social circle
Yeah the downside to it is you get some Back In My Day around like women and boot camps and shit but I haven't had to run into that too much fortunately 🎄🤛
Also yeah desk jobs can be rough - I find taking a quick walk break every couple hours or so helps me keep my focus
Yeah there's a nice lil outdoor area I can walk around in once the weather is nicer and I've been lifting weights on some of my lunch breaks which helps
Tbh my biggest issue now is just that I am still learning so much that I often run out of things I can do before someone is available to help me
