We came up with the story for the FTL Y'all anthology prompt

6 months from now detailed schematics anonymously uploaded to the Internet will describe, with absolute precision, how to build a faster-than-light engine for $200 in easily-available parts.
Space travel will be instantly—and chaotically—democratized. The entire cosmos is suddenly within reach of all humankind, without organization, authority, or limitation.

our concept is based 60 or so years after the FTL drive becomes a thing - the main dude, The Runner, was a courier using FTL-based tech for instantaneous shipping, which had become standard - but he has no patience for the unreasonable demands people place on an already instantaneous system - so he instead decides to go back to the old ways

he joins a transport relay chain of slowboat couriers who shuttle goods/people/services the old fashioned way between planets - and the only reason why one might want to use that service is if they don't want their goods tracked - so it's a fairly illicit business

he likes how long and lonely it is, and couldn't be much happier with his job - but one day, a little old lady and her cat ask for passage on his ship, and he suddenly has his hands full

he gets real shaggy as their trip goes along

she's a millenial and always making weird references and laughing at her own shit and he is so confused and too afraid to ask

if we don't make it in, we'll do the story anyway, just with a bit more padding in the beginning to build up their world without the anthology's prompt built in!
