like... it wasnt horrific. but it definitely wasnt good, and this film needed to be great if we were going to get more dark tower on the big screen
i get that its a sequel and not going to hold to the original books, but there were so many elements chucked all together, people unfamiliar with the series will likely be confused
its presented in such a way that they wont be totally lost, but theres not a lot of depth either
even at the end, a moment of victory... i didnt feel anything
i talked at myself a lot before the movie started. reminding myself that no, the movie will not be the books. things will be different. and thats fine. i can see where they were going with it
its fine for casual moviegoers who dont have a lot invested, i guess, but at the same time it doesnt give any reasons to get more invested
im not demanding my money back or anything, but... after so much time, it just felt sloppy and rushed and in the end? meh.
i so wanted it to be good...
this a movie that's sort of like 'you really need to have read the books to fully enjoy it'?
i was thinking about actually going out to see it despite having initial doubts but...... baw
husbando they did try to simplify things for casual viewers. left out a lot of vocabulary and lore to keep things more accessible, but my brother (who has only read the 1st book) had a little trouble following certain parts
so i imagine someone without any knowledge under their belts would be dealing with a lot of 'wtf is this nonsense'
but at the same time, like i said... not a ton of real depth. ud probably be able to get it just fine, but there's nothing to immerse u in the world either
i keep thinking back on it and wondering if im being too hard on it since i love the source material so much, but i firmly believe that when u walk out of a movie theater, u should feel something.
whether ur sad or happy or pumped up, there should be something
this is a series that, after seven books of build up, made me bawl like a baby during the last book
but the movie was just... meh followed by mild disappointment
wtf the vocabulary and lore were huge hooks for me for this series
like one of the main things that kept me reading was wanting to find out more about mid world and its culture and stuff!
whoever thought cutting that stuff out forgot the face of their father >:IIII
I can see where it's necessary though, it'd be hard to cram all of that into a movie
...tbh the dark tower probably should have gotten a tv series
yeeaaah that probably would have been the better way to go
just make everything a netflix series
we need a Temeraire series nect
Del Toro said he wants to direct it so let him
I'm still gonna see it, because Idris Elba
but I'll see it at a matinee time
yeah, dont spend $15 on it like i did
actually, i spent 30 because i paid for my brothers ticket too
matinees here are $5 so I will go then
theres two theaters close to me. one is the expensive one with the imax, the other is the cheaper one with $8 matinees, but guess which one wasnt showing the dark tower
As a person who hasn't read the books I thought it was pretty good but it felt really short and rushed
It would have been way cooler though if they'd included some of the things bf explained to me after though
yeah, theres a lot of context that would make things so much better
thinking on it a day later, it's really not terrible, but its def rushed
and missing so much of the depth that it could have had
i guess a lot of it for me is just the disappointment that comes from having loved the books and waited for the movie for so long :\
