Welcome to computer building!
I lucked out and got my 1080 the day of a delivery at a microcenter
luck is your only chance till the after market dies down on newer models
I might call around the local shops and see if they happen to have any in stock but I doubt it
I mean the alternative is I just go ahead and get everything and slap in my ancient Radeon HD 5700
A regular 1080 or 1070 cant be that hard to find, they're older now. And really easy to sli with newer models, so see what you can scrounge up there
Yeah we'll see. I live in a place where the only real computer places are repair shops so hopefully they might ahve something in stock
living in bumfuck nowhere and having a need for power is the worst
Oi yo Spont you still there? You know if the 7700k is still having the temp spike issues?
As of May I was still hearing things about that but idk about right now
Nothing recent, so no idea if it stopped being an issue or if people just stopped complaining
Gotcha. I have the cheap evo fan on my current CPU so I'd have to spring for a new one since I don't want to do water cooling. Sounds unfortunate
I have a really, really good air cooling setup with a Noctua D14 I believe
That unit itself goes for around 80 and its two huge heat sinks and two huge fans, fucking computer blows out as much cold air as my AC sometimes. I can highly recommend that for a cpu cooler upgrade
I was thinking about getting the single heat sink version since the D14 is fuck off hueg and apparently has some issues fitting into certain cases. Any issues with it hitting your ram or anything like that?
but the mb is kinda small
I cant use the first RAM slot because of its closeness to one heat sink tbh, wont fit in comfortably
my case is an older Thermaltake, Chaser mk-1, cpu is a 6700k
Any issues with temp spikes? Tempted to go with a that over the 77 if the temp spikes are still a thing
the chaser has REALLY nice case fans it comes with
I've never really noticed any?
Only issue I have is cat hair making the fans on the D14 grind when I havent cleaned them out in awhile
Fair enough. You do any overclocking?
Im too paranoid to mess around with it personally
And I never saw much need considering how beefy the 1080 is to be honest
I have the asus one too, the build with the three fans and large heatsink
so Im sure overclocking wouldnt be an actual issue, but again, paranoid
Fair enough. Now I'm just going through all these cases and trying to decide what I want
the one thing I will say case wise is that at least on the one I have, this model's power button gets knocked loose every now and again which leads to. Not. working
and its not in an easy position to jigger with nor is it really replacable, so that and airflow are the two things I'd keep in mind
some hdd bays come with trays the harddrive just sits in that you can pull out and just plug a new one into like a fucking nes cart
Ironically Amazon is like $100 cheaper
Speaking of prices have you ever used
PCpartpicker? a lot of times it can find good deals on parts for a build
it also lets you know if there's any compatibility issues with what you're plugging into it
I probably saved around 180 from buying from the places it recommended on some of my stuff
Yeah I just diddled around. By the time newegg charges a higher tax rate it comes out to be the same
