XV reminds me a lot of V, but the only romance in V was everyone generally being thirsty for Faris. 6 had celes and locke but the main character didn't get a romance subplot. even the cloud thirst in 7 wasn't a proper romance. but everything from 8 onwards.......

i thought the game was leading up to noct/luna being kind of a do-what-you-have-to-do thing with the dialogue in C1 where the other party members tease Noct about marrying her and he doesn't seem especially into it

I wouldn't have minded a situation where it was an arranged marriage but Noct got to figure out that he genuinely loved her, but....

basically the way XV handles royalty is half interesting and half unreconstructed bullshit and often both at the same time

i'm fond of the way that Noct's privilege literally puts him on a different plane of existence to other people, and they're dependent on his trickle-down power. i'm less fond of how the game seems to have no problems with that

id be ok with him coming to love lunafreya too bc like legit her character is cool as hell but the game really shouldnt have pushed it bc it feels so fake in a romantic context.

i've got fonder of tifa as I've got older but the 'badass tifa' thing fandom has is such a lie

i still like how cloud/tifa is the only one where there's some feeling that they have to learn to recognise and love each other as adults as they are now, rather than as emotionally compromised children.

BARRET IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO CLOUD i think the reason a lot of us ignored him was bc we were so young when ff7 came out

one thing i really did not appreciate about Barret until I was more of a narrative structure-head is how much he serves as the player's POV character when Cloud is in flux. He's never the playable character, but everything he says during Disc 2 is supposed to be what the player is thinking.
