I need to do more of these memes
I guess I should have expected this considering he never talks about himself ever
1. Robin Liam Edwards. He does not appreciate jokes about Batman, Hood, birds, or thievery.
2. Nope. I can't imagine a scenario in which he gets one either.
3. Not particularly. See #1, plus generally getting picked on and being a social outcast. He certainly didn't the Worst Childhood Ever but he didn't enjoy most of it that much.
4. His relationship with his mother was fine. His father not so much after his parents separated.
Sorry for not giving specific memories here. I focused on assembling his personality and just came up with broad strokes for backstory because backstories are something I'm terrible with when making OCs. orz
5. He has a younger sister whose name I can't recall off the top of my head. He was an overprotective big brother at first but after she got older and could look after herself he didn't really know what to do with her and they drifted apart.
6. Pretty much a straight-A student. He loved just about every subject. Not gym, because he was always in classes full of jocks who were way better than him and rubbed it in. He's finished high school but ended up a college dropout.
7. Rarely more than one at a time. His adult friends are/were more plentiful than his childhood friends.
8. No pets. He likes animals in general but isn't really an animal person. Getting Pokémon has been a huge learning experience for him. One of them has behavioral problems and another has psychological issues that he hasn't dealt with properly. He was overconfident going in and is only recently realizing that he's screwed up with them.
9. Animals don't have any particular affinity for him. He tends to view them in terms of what they can provide (meat, hides, etc), but that's partly a result of the Bastion and trying to ensure the community has sustainable resources.
10. He tends to view children as smaller adults. He's uncomfortably okay with the whole child soldier thing that Sol Raveh has going. I expect that his future in the Bastion will involve angry parents upset that he's taught their children how to forge knives and let them play in his workshop with sharp objects.
11. This is actually something I've never thought about. If he does have any allergies they're probably something obscure that he'll only learn about at a suitably dramatic inconvenient moment.
12. Another thing I've never thought about. Probably something meat-related. Bacon, maybe?
13. Again, I've never thought about food-related stuff. Unless I have and am just forgetting that's always possible. I'll go with something stereotypical like brussel sprouts.
14. I don't know why I've never given any thought to food preferences. He probably remembers eating the first rabbit he killed.
15. He can make a few kinds of bread, salads, bacon and eggs, hot dogs, sandwiches... Cooking isn't something he's particularly interested in. Everything he makes in fine. Not good, not bad, just fine. Completely unmemorable.
16. Rob throws nothing away if he can help it. He used to collect Magic cards, Warcraft figures, and probably other nerdy things. Now he's collecting stuff he thinks would be useful in the Bastion. He has a bag of holding and a staff that can shrink objects down and store them inside a crystal, both of which are accumulating a lot of junk.
17. Very rarely. Oddly enough, photography isn't one of his many interests. He has definitely never taken a selfie.
18. Fantasy. He knows enough sci-fi to be nerdy about that too.
19. The kinds of coming-of-age stories that are assigned for reading at school. More generally, he isn't a fan of stories about normal people living normal lives.
20. He's not a music person. One more reason to not get along with Ibuki.
21. Rob keeps an extremely tight lid on his temper. He's super-patient. Rob losing his temper is, um... let's just say he has the potential to be a true berserker in the most terrifying possible way. He lets bits of that show when he's fighting, but one of the things I still want to RP is him completely letting himself go off the deep end.
My guess is it'll take someone he cares about being severely injured, but I'm not sure yet.
22. He insults people in his head and puts up a wall of quietness and politeness between him and other people. If he doesn't like someone he'll usually just ignore them (even to their face). Him actually insulting people out loud means that he's getting pretty annoyed. Usually insults are because someone is being an idiot.
23. He has a reasonably good memory for most things. He remembers facts and information very well (see: straight-A student) but he has more trouble with remembering things about people, especially when they haven't stood out to him or done anything he thinks is interesting. He can usually tell if he's seen someone before, even if he remembers nothing else
24. Another thing I haven't thought about much. He used to sleep fairly well, as long as nobody else is in the same room. After coming back from his homeworld he understandably hasn't slept as well. He's been sleeping better since the new year started, but there are definitely times when he can't close his eyes without seeing things he'd rather forget.
25. He doesn't have a good sense of humor, actually. Puns and wordplay he can appreciate though. Practical jokes just annoy him. Most jokes he either doesn't get or thinks are stupid.
26. Since he doesn't emote much it's fairly subtle, but he stands up straighter and speaks slightly louder and more often when he's happy. He's more energetic in general when he's happy. Him being in a good mood is one of the few times he'll try to make jokes or puns.
27. When he's sad he'll usually try to be by himself and sometimes cry. He'll also eat more if he's sad. I'm not really sure how to categorize the things that make him sad; I tend to just play them by ear. At this point, any reference to his homeworld is likely to bring him down, for obvious reasons.
He also gets quieter when he's sad.
28. I've never thought about this either. This is an odd thing for me to miss. I'll need to think about this more. He was definitely nervous the first time he met grandpadragon, because, well, giant predator. When he's scared he'll get tense and quiet if there's no immediate threat to him. If there is an actual threat, or even just something he can do,
he'll keep acting and crash on the other side.
29. If he has any response, it'll be to try and offer reassurance. Often he doesn't really know what to do with the knowledge, but he avoids using it against the person even if he's angry with them.
30. He's been exercising more and more as he gets more comfortable in his warrior role and gets a better understanding of what he needs to work on. He isn't dedicated enough to training yet to get really good at fighting; that may or may not change in the future, depending on how certain things turn out.
31. He's become more of a drinker since he got back. How he is when he's drunk is dependent on how he was feeling when he started drinking, so there's an equal chance of alcohol making things better or worse with him. He gets splitting headaches when he's hung over and tries to avoid loud noises.
32. Rob's fashion sense...
Once he starting building up the self-confidence to wear something other than "generic 21st century male" he started weaving a path between comfort, practicality, and what he thinks looks cool.
He likes having a bare chest, especially when he's exerting himself or otherwise getting sweaty. He likes loose and baggy clothing. He likes having his toes exposed.
He dislikes restrictive clothing around his groin. He dislikes feeling air against his scalp.
He genuinely thinks that fur, hides, bones, and spikes look cool. He likes being able to add a layer of badass on top by using only animal parts from animals he's killed and prepared himself. This all meets up in the barbarian/orc/viking aesthetic he's got going on. Unfortunately for him, he's been too focused on the comfort and cool aspects and has been
neglecting the practical part lately. He's not (yet) a good enough warrior that he can get away with wearing so little when fighting higher-level enemies. I'm sure nothing bad will come of this, right?
(as an aside, I've been kicking around the idea of Rob wearing warpaint for a while, but sadly there's no IC justification for that yet so my dreams must remain unfulfilled)
...I have no idea why this section ended up as long as it did
33. ...Nope. He wears a kilt into battle. 'Nuff said.
34. Broad-shouldered, bulky, but without super-defined muscles. I think I had him at 5'9" or 5'10"? He looks stronger than he actually is because I enjoy playing with mismatches of appearance and personality. He's generally okay with his body and thinks the scars look cool, though it took him a bit of time to convince himself that the big scar on his
cheek looked okay. It'll take more convincing for what's to come.
35. I don't know how guilty of a pleasure his general nerdiness actually is to him. Probably not very much. Add this to the list of things I haven't thought about.
36. Lots of stuff, but with the current exception of alchemy he's at most second-best with everything. He's a jack-of-all-trades. He doesn't have an actual specialty but having ranks in so many skills makes him a good support character. He's like a bard (minus the singing); you don't want him as your main fighter, main healer, or main caster, but he's really
useful as a fifth party member to fill in any gaps. Video games, reading, and picking up minor skills were his hobbies pre-Bastion. Now that's basically been reduced to reading since there aren't many video games and picking up minor skills has basically become part of his job description now. He's a terrible singer.
37. Yes. Very yes. He's a fast reader. He's not a fan of poetry, but he reads both fiction and nonfiction. His datascroll with a copy of Colin's database in it is the best item he ever got; he's got multiple planets worth of internets in that thing. There's always something to read.
38. The answer used to be "everything", but with increasing self-confidence that's narrowed. He admires intelligence, leadership skills, and self-confidence (or the illusion of such). He wishes he could be a leader, give inspiring speeches, and be more extroverted.
39. He's not a fan of writing in general, but between the two he'll go with emails. His handwriting is like a doctor's.
40. Despite being a computer nerd, he doesn't. He rarely stays up late.
41. Asexual. Panromantic. He doesn't care that much about appearances, but he does have limits (no slime or tentacle monsters, for example). He's more drawn to minds and personalities: intelligent, kind, accepting people. He'd definitely need someone who would give him space when he needs it.
42. Ensure that the Bastion and those in it will survive whatever happens to it. That's basically become the main thing he's looking forward to now. Secondarily, he wants to ensure that the Bastion doesn't repeat any of the problems of Earth, even if that means that the Bastion doesn't reach its full potential. Once he's back in the Bastion he'll be willing
to make sacrifices for it. Until then, he'd make sacrifices for friends. Currently he has no secret ambition or notable personal goals. Hopefully that will change at some point.
43. Another thing I haven't thought about. He's almost certainly atheist. Or as close as he can get while knowing that deities exist in some worlds. That knowledge is probably confusing for him and he probably avoids thinking too deeply about that kind of stuff.
44. Spring or fall, probably. He doesn't enjoy sweating in the heat, but he isn't enthused about having to bundle up in the cold, either. He likes cool breezes.
45. I don't know how to answer this. I suspect that his self-image doesn't match how others see him, but I don't know.
46. If he's wearing his warrior gear he probably makes a memorable first impression, but not the most accurate one. He doesn't always remember to introduce himself, so there's probably a bunch of people who just know him as "that guy with the creepy necklace".
47. Nope nope nope. Formal is totally not his thing. He forces himself to tolerate the informal parties in Sol Raveh and Bastion, but that's about his limit.
48. He'd enjoy smaller gatherings where the goal was playing video games or something and not just conversations. Unfortunately for him those don't come up often in RP.
49. Probably his rabbit-skull necklace, but he really likes his datascroll, wolf headdress, and bag of holding for more practical reasons, so it's kind of a tossup.
50. He has a bag of holding specifically so he doesn't have to make this choice. That said he'd be super practical about what he packed so his list of essentials would be pretty boring, aside from his wolf headdress (for staying warm or cool) and his datascroll and charger (because if you can carry the internet in your pocket, why wouldn't you?).
anything in particular you're surprised by?
okay but consider: Zuko was taught about selfies and insists on getting photos of all her friends so Rob may have taken at least one selfie in his life, with Zuko.
Does it count as a selfie if someone else takes it and you happen to be in it?
...Zuko thinks it does so yes
I approve of Sans photobombing
re: beserker thing: it's something that's been bubbling under the surface here and there it just hasn't had much chance to take center stage
I feel like Sans's reaction to seeing Rob's LV suddenly spike into the double-digits would be entertaining also
