claiming that because isabela/merrill/leliana's romances are better with women, that they are lesbians
drawing isabela with skin that's a lot darker than her actual skin color
if u have to take away representation from another group than you're doing it wrongggg
or, oh! being more defensive of bi cullen/alistair than actual bi/pan characters
josephine exists you assholes!!
sits in here for all this
I haven't done those romances either way, how are they better with women out of curiosity?
on the isabela with way darker skin thing, some people are just...extremely fetishistic about anyone with a different skin tone or POC in general and it's actually really creepy and gross
Koyuyu: i don't really think so. i mean, people think that doing it with bela and male feels very "fix the wild woman" or something that i've seen but i don't mind it either way
crashfade: graar it is so fetishy and gross. i notice it a lot in this fandom, esp.
also apparently you can't call alistair a white guy anymore
I could understand slight skin tone changes as artistic difference because no two artists will use the same tones...but WAY different... =/
yeah da fandom has it pretty bad compared to my other ones...
...why can't you call him white...? Because he's half elf?
i've seen fanart before where someone's premise was "i headcanon all the companions as POC! here is how i think they look!!"
proceed with merrill being not-white...
aveline is also now...not-white
varric is now also....not-white
it's...kind of really fucked up?
And people don't see it as troublesome if they aren't whitewashing characters?
Though I know whitewashing happens in the fandom too.
just a few days ago people were trying to defend whitewashing in art
I just sort of see it said that making white people not white isn't racist because you can't be racist against white people...
but... Alistair is really white?
white washing Dorian is a personal pet peeve of mine, and Josephine
The only time I can excuse not represent skin tone in art is like if it's black and white only. Like I mean with no grayscale.
because alistair was supposedly kinda dark in dao, and lighter in dai but i didn't notice that
and yeah leave josie and dorian aloooooone arrgh
Since typically hair is what gets colored in before skin, and that isn't realistic representation.
yeah the usual logic is that it's only bad if you make them white which is just...
idk here's a crazy idea how about we just don't change people skintones at all from what they actually are...
...Alistair didn't look dark to me? Maybe not pasty pale but he looked healthily light skinned...
Okay looking at caps, with Alistair it literally just looks like lighting differences.
it's lighting differences
that said, there are skin tone differences even among white people
so it's interesting to me that people don't...notice that but make a Thing of it if someone is clearly POC
Yeah definitely. Hell I have differences in my skin from time to time. I'm more pale in winter, never mind that I'm pale in general but still.
I'm actually more surprised it's about lighting differences rather than his half elf self.
people will take anything these days :')
as someone who rps both merrill and leliana - i can see where others would feel comfortable that they are more leaned towards women on the bi spectrum (but completely erasing the fact that they are bi is shit)
i play both of them out as favoring women over men but they do have great chemistry with men as well (ie i will ship merrill/carver into the sunset goddamn it but I also enjoy merrill/bethany)
but yeah lmao that's so shitty :') but im not surprised
oh yeah! i mean bi people can have slight prefs for one gender over the other but it's just acting like they can't have any relationships with men because ewww men or whatever
no i know what you were getting at
tbh this fandom has a problem with ... everything lmao
(i kind of resonate with those characters on a personal level because of my own prefs and being used to people being like lol nooo when i mention i like girls and dudes so i mean... yeah. used to it)
so of course it's in fandom /rolls eyes
bi erasure in general just pisses me off fucking hell
/brofists everyone in this plurk tbh
it's really frustrating especially when it's just...idk
gotta love that bi erasure
casually phased out of convo
i see it a lot because i have a lot of lesbian people on my timeline...
of course not all of them are like that? but there's definitely some who get vocal about how x character is TOTALLY GAY!!!!!
but it's a character that's bi
OR we don't actually know that they don't have interest in the opposite gender, only confirmation that they like someone of the same gender
the attitude towards bi people in general is sad coming from both straight and gay
it sucks because like... i get why they automatically leap to "TOTALLY GAY" because they want representation
and if you have to take away rep from someone else then is it really representation...
but at the same time being bi/pan is still so generally seen as faking or just taking the easy way or something
so some people even argue that having gay representation is more important than any bi representation
both are important okay people it's not a competition
we should be united rather than fighting with eachother
but also in the da fandom is the insane hatred for characters for being PCsexual/bi-default
yup. all of this
even though these things do exist in a normal spectrum. i'll agree that it's not balanced per se, but i don't think it's write to write off that you can clearly have homosexual relationships with bi characters
...also on the isabela thing, that just pisses me off anyway because it's CANON DEFAULT that she ends up in a casual relationship with fenris
some people will be like LOL NOT IN MY GAME but i'm just :|
neither of them are homosexually exclusive
