sis told me I'll be managing food for 5 days
at first I was like okay can we just order biscuits and canned foods but then we need real food too
and I haven't travel for 2 years I feel so lacked
and we're going without guide tour which is a problem
and now last minute, sis kept changing locations and I was like JUST GET IT STRAIGHT ALREADY
I don't wanna ruin the fun because of food. I have this weakness that I prefer someone to guide me because I have zero knowledge about Korea
sis talked to me like 15 mins about where we're going and mention this place names, but like 2 mins later, I forgot the plane name already. Probably I'm not interested with the place name.
when I check in google they said Itaewon is the best place to get safe food and yet we're not going there because my sis said there's nothing fun about that place except food
im trying to talk to my friends in LINE and they're not helping and make jokes about it. They're not serious when I talk about it.
One of them: send me some candy from Korea.
safe food a big problem in korea?
safe as in, no alcohol and no pork. We're not allowed to eat them.
that shouldn't be too hard from what I know of korea
Japan's way bigger on pork than they are
there's quite a few pork dishes in Korea, actually. pork belly (samgyeopsal) being a big one. it's p. popular in the meat-oriented restaurants there.
there's also pork bulgogi, pork intestines, and some stews might use pork instead of beef as well.
oh, there could also be pork in some of the mandu there, too. you'd have to look out for veggie-based ones if you want to avoid it, I think.
I'd suggest checking out noodle places (just make sure the broth isn't pork-based), vegetarian places, or seafood places if you want to avoid pork.
if you're okay with beef, you can make sure you're only eating beef-based stuff, too. there's plenty of places that serve beef or chicken.
flute is far more educated on korean food than I
wow geez flute, have you been to Korea before :0
my family is Korean, and I lived there for a year. that was years ago, though, so I can't give any detailed information about it. Korea changes very fast.
omg yes Korea change very fast. if only i can ask more about food in Seoul.
whichever restaurants you end up going, just check or ask if there's pork in it. there should be at least a few dishes on the menu that don't have pork.
otherwise, you'll just end up stuck in Itaewon the whole time. (it's the "westerntown" area where you'd find more non-Korean food.) and Seouldef. has more to offer than just Itaewon.
asking questions is helpful if they know English, i hope they know what we're saying. but still, good tips! thx a lot!
I think Seoul has more tourists than other cities in Korea, so you might be able to get away with some English here and there.
but, in my opinion, it probably wouldn't hurt to learn how to say "pig" in Korean or at least try to take a picture of the word to keep on your phone so you can try to avoid it on menus.
the google translate app for smartphones can also identify Korean text if you take a pic of it. google translate sucks for sentences and such, but isn't completely terrible for single words.
