The confrontation happens. Hanzo, distraught by the death of his father, pressured by the clan elders, vows to put an end to Genji's childishness.

It isn't a fight. It's a slaughter. Genji doesn't even defend himself. He scoffs at first - Hanzo wouldn't kill him, right?

But Hanzo draws his sword and makes the first cut, and Genji realizes yes, yes he would.

He pleas and begs with his brother, but never once does he reach for his sword.

He sobs with each slice, each cut, until he can't scream for mercy any more.

Hanzo leaves him there, bleeding, flames from their fight engulfing the room. He presumes Genji is dead.

In a way, he's right.

There's a mole in the Shimada clan, an agent of Talon, who tells their superiors the tale of the dragons, of the brothers gifted with power they cannot comprehend.

Talon is eager for a test subject.

They find Genji in pieces, charred and burnt. Mostly dead.

The only thing they salvage is his head.

Just the brain, but that's all they need. The testing begins.

They tinker with Genji's remains, discover and learn about the dragon. But their tests take a toll.

Genji's dragon begins to distort. It flickers and fades. Pieces fall away.

Genji's mind suffers more. He begs for death, for them to end him.

They never do. He's too valuable. His skill with the sword are useful. His dragon more so.

The body they construct is based on stolen research from Winston and Dr. Ziegler.

It's crude, bipedal. Almost like a man. It looks draconic.

Genji's dragonblade is shattered. Its pieces become the teeth of the body.

His shuriken become talons.

Genji's head is placed in the chest cavity, wired into the systems. His mind controls the body.

At first, Genji fights back. He fights against his retainers, the scientists. And when that doesn't work, he tries in vain to kill himself.

Talon deactivate the body, but Genji remains alive.

They wire into the system, they take control from him entirely.

The monster they make has all of Genji's skill, all of his abilities. But Genji is not in control.

He can only watch in horror as his body moves of its own volition, as he is forced to slay innocents and carry out Talon's dirty work.

He cannot even scream. He can only obey.

And this goes on for years.

After the death of Mondatta, Talon sets its sights on the Shambali order. Genji is sent to kill the rest of the monks.

But something happens they don't expect.

A single monk stands against him. When Genji attacks, the halo of the Iris passes over and he is rendered unconscious from a precise blow.

It knocks the control module keeping Genji in check offline. It gives Genji access back to his own horrible body.

And for the first time in years, Genji is free.

Free, but mentally distraught.

He's stuck in a body not his own. He's killed so many people. He's been twisted and warped by Talon.

He just wants to die. He wants the nightmare to end.

But the monk that stopped him just cants his head to the side and offers him a hand.

And Genji, desperate Genji, takes it.

He'll never recover from his ordeal entirely. No. But this? This is a start.

and i was thinking if shinra was super fucking susceptible to madness as well, but the madness of love

and if he ever got bad enough to be a kishin his form would include a hole in his chest and ribs jutting open, exposing his heart
