He loves it. He is especially pleased with his namesake.
He wants to be Graham for Halloween next year.
I'm actually considering a Valanice cosplay.
Like, one of the young Valanices. Probably Neese.
...IDK if the sale's still on, but Humble Bundle was offering a Sierra pack with EVERY KING'S QUEST EVER at the $20 level.
...Well, that might be a lie. I'm not sure if Mask of Eternity is in there. But Mask of Eternity doesn't count.
If nothing else, I can hook people up with some LPs.
OMG, this may have to be my night where I do a lot of squeeing over King's Quest things.
EVERYONE SHOULD PLAY IT. GO GET YOUR COLLECTION
HERE.
It is the game series I cut my RPG teeth on.
Clicking on the Bundle tells me KQ is Windows only
For those who can't play (so very sad), I have wonderful LPs for you
I don't have a Bravery one right offhand.
But those will tell you everything you need to know about the series.
Also, OK, I have to share the Thing That Just Doesn't Seem Like Coincidence.
OK, so, KQ4 was released in 1988, and that's where Princess Rosella gets to be our protagonist.
Here she in her royal princess gown:
And there again with her mom and her twin brother Alexander and their poor dying father whom she has to save:
But she doesn't spend the majority of the game in that pretty white dress. Not very practical for adventuring, so! She gets a peasant disguise.
This is also the game where we are introduced to Edgar. This is Edgar when we meet him:
But he gets transformed into a handsome prince!
Look at those character designs carefully, kids.
Now, fast forward 3 years to 1991. Disney fans will recognize this as the year that Beauty and the Beast was released.
Where a lovely girl dressed as a peasant
helps a beastly young man
become a handsome prince once again
(For kicks, as he appears in Kingdom Hearts:
)
It should also be noted that the voice of the Beast is the one and only Robby Benson, who also voiced Rosella's brother Prince Alexander in 1992's King's Quest VI.
Jump ahead again to 1994 and the release of King's Quest VII! Rosella is back once more as one of our protagonists!
(Her mom Valanice is the other protag)
Edgar also returns and, SPOILER ALERT--
He has again been transformed, this time into a beastly troll... and Rosella gets the troll treatment too, for good measure.
But! He also gets to be transformed once again into a handsome prince!
The KQ7 redesigns of Rosella and Edgar seem to be more than a little influenced by Beauty and the Beast, if you ask me.
Because you know what else came out in 1994? The Swan Princess.
Say hello to Princess Odette
And along with Prince Derek:
And again:
Oh, look Derek even got his own doll!
LOOKS FAMILIAR, DOESN'T IT?
IDK if it was deliberate or not, but Odette and Derek are pretty much dead ringers for KQ4 Rosella and Edgar.
I didn't know The Beast was also voiced by Alexander's VA! That makes me so happy! (KQ6 is the best! The Isle of Wonder alone...!)
Also in a parents teaching their kids to play video game bonding moment, I hooked Robin on Katamari today. bwhahaa.
It's true! And delightful! But, yeah, there seems to be a threeway connection between KQ and those two movies.
And high-five for teaching our kids to love games.
