As evidenced by the last plurk, I am playing PokemonGo. Why? Because I play Ingress and all of the Pokestops are Ingress portals. If I am gonna be there ANYWAY for Ingress portals....
Might as well play this one too. Plus, all of my student workers are playing it. I really have nothing in common with them, being 20 years older than them. So now we have something to talk about.
But it's pretty funny when I go to hack an Ingress portal and there are people standing around, "You here for the Pokemons, man?" And then I get to explain the awesomeness of Ingress.
Daeberethwen: It's a good game. I like the strategy of it, and that part does not really exist in Pokemon Go. Ingress is a strategy game, and Pokemon Go is definitely a collecting game.
thaumata: It's an augmented reality game where you walk around and "capture" various landmarks for your team. Or you "hack" the landmarks for points and items that let you upgrade the things you capture.
There's also an aspect of it where you link the landmarks (called portals) together. The objective is to get the most landmarks linked up, and prevent the opposite team from linking THEIR landmarks up.
Ingress is a blast. Key farming, fielding, cooperation with teammates from all over the world. We have regular fields from Hawaii to Alaska to San Francisco and back
