Find your niche - you don't have to master everything at once. Take time to focus on one thing at a time!
As harsh as it is, be aware of where you stand vs your competition, and price/market accordingly. I think it's an issue a lot of new merchants don't understand, they come in and try to sell their first meshes
for 500-2000L$ when they're not even comparable to a lot of other things in the same bracket. They do not understand that although it takes a lot of RL time, asking RL pricing is not feasible.
Vendor pics are KEY. alot of people tend to neglect them and they are VERY important. they can make or break a great product.!
Be prepared to wear many hats. Designing and knowing your programs is just ONE of the abilities you Need. Model like a game asset designer (because this is what you are), texture like a pro,...
And advice would be: don't rest on your laurels. Never stop learning and improving. Meshing is learnable. anyone can pick it up so someone new will always have the potential to overtake you. Always.
...be an Advertising photographer, think like a Blogger, use Marketing and learn pubic releations
And like Zee said: Never stop learning. Make that your mantra
And like Anke said: Noone can do everything. If you have the Feeling that you are not good at one Thing get someone who is to help you out
Also start small most new stores arent gonna get into well known events but build up your store start with hunts and smaller less known events.
When I started my store 4 years ago events wasnt really a thing but I did every hunt I could get into to build up my customer base and when events came along started applying to those too.
I've heard many laments from long time designers why they're not selling as well as they are. Part of the answer is there are more meshers. With each new mesher, the quality is higher. Their ads glossier.
Noobs in sl are not noobs to virtual world and mesh. They understand their peers - the needs, the fashion trends - and they sell to them. They have higher standards from playing other games.
Also dont be discouraged if you feel like your not getting into things as a designer. Most designers you see and shop have had their shops for years and years
So to repeat, never ever ever rest on your laurels.
So they started off just like you too
Also this isnt mentioned enough but try and run your sl business like you would in real life. Cause it goes a long way in all aspects from how you react to people to designing and ads all of it
Cause sadly ive seen so many designers over the years behave in ways as a customer or fellow designer and organizer I couldnt imagine a store owner doing in rl if that makes sense
Don't compare yourself to others, just compare yourself to you. Are you improving? Is your store getting better? That's what matters.
These are all fab answers! Don't forget to replurk and show more people out there that everyone was where they were once <3
RIGHT totally forgot to replurk
make nice vendors pics and select great blogger too...
I adore so many of these responses. hmm what to say that others have not already... I will have to think on that haha. Y'all already hit on so many notes!
