By the same token, say I wanted to start an art project where people put a pic of their face up every year to chronicle their aging and I called it Facebank, would facebook claim to own the word face?

I think this guy should refuse to change the name and let's see if the law can prove that facebook/instagram own the word gram.
yeah it's pretty ballsy on fb's behalf
maybe it was a decision made by one of these youngin's that doesn't know what a telegram is, or had a candygram etc

Whith Candy Crisis Saga (or whatever) trying to say they own the word "saga", now everyone wants to claim they own common words. The one similar claim that had at least some grouds

Was Apple's with its use of the lower-case "i" in front of some of their product names. It's not a word, it's a particular use of a letter.

So "iCare" would infringe on their trademark, but any other variation (ICare, I-Care, etc) would be fine. Ahem. TL:-DR: stupid claim by FB. (blush)
