i've had various ideas over the last 6 years and the ideas kept evolving, but the eventually culminated in this:
this is the colour palette I'm going to use for my room
the colour palette has also had a lot of iterations in the past but the turquoise is still there, as is the purple. a lot more purple than I ever expected, plus it's headed towards pink now. I like pink <3
and this is what my room might look like in therory. the black line is the other wall. so it's smaller than it looks.
the trunk and the bedside table need to be redecorated, they're both gross not-quite-woody colours right now. the bedside table is lacquered plywood but I'LL MAKE IT LOOK GOOD
and i intend to get a salt lamp because goddamn i need a nightlight, i get way too many nightmares and i end up turning on my beside lamp in my sleep because my subconscious finds yellow light comforting
plus air cleaning and whatnot
i went and designed this today because i was like SALT LAMP IS ORANGE and i had no orange to match it with, and it turned out i liked how warm the orange made the whole room look
this is the colour palette's development:
i made this one after watching the x files episode "all things" which i looooved, and there was a house in that episode owned by lesbians which was absolutely magical
and it had these colours and i was like YAAAS GIVE ME THAT
but then i got to thinking about the whole summer-to-winter change and how that green and the cool tones of the colours would bring me down in winter
so then i had this. but as much as i wanted gold and purple, the intermediate colours are really freaking gross so this was scrapped quickly
then i marathoned 'friends' and the purple apartment put me in the mood to make
everything purple.
monica's kitchen has turquoise shelves too and for the first time i was sure that turquoise and purple would actually work together
i made a second one, warmed it up and bit and added pink so it was more like a sunset than mist
that was at the end of 2015
but i still wasn't satisfied, and due to that i hadn't sat down and actually properly put together the image i wanted on the wall. it was all in my head and i didn't wannnnaaaaa
but then salt lamp idea!!! and yay orange and yellow and IT ALL WORKS WITH TURQUOISE yayyyy
plus i really wanted rainbows but i didn't want to overclutter the palette. i'm fairly sure this mix gets enough colours from the spectrum to cover a nice bit of rainbow
i think it's obvious i'm not a minimalist, despite what my youtube watch history might imply (endless videos of people decluttering and making their lifestyles more minimal)
i've just dreamed of having a pretty colourful bedroom instead of an icky dirty cream one for nearly all my life and I'M SO CLOSE
the things i need to do mostly include leaving the house and buying diy materials so i can make things, which is difficult but it'll get done
and somehow getting bookshelves made. i've had the plan for those in my head for years too but i can't draw plans until i've measured the books and found suitable storage boxes to go in the shelf for my crafts
all the boxes i want are from ikea and they're either inaccessible or ridiculously expensive
i ranted to my mother earlier about how terrible nz's business model is. it's all dairy farming, tourism, or tiny boutique handmade stuff, no mass produced cheap stuff because everyone buys that online
which continues the trend of people buying online because we just sit here and accept that we're going to pay horrendous shipping costs
someone needs to set up a warehouse in auckland and order in BULK and then when people order fancy american shit or things from the uk, they only have to pay for inland shipping
istg if i wasn't sick and trying to do one fucking thing at a time, i'd do it myself
there is literally no need for the disgusting markup prices we pay for everything. it just happens because it keeps happening. it's HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CIRCLE AND SOMEONE NEEDS TO PUT AN END TO IT
and this has been a plurk about interior design and unsustainable business models. thank you and good night
p.s. in the mural, the big castle is hogwarts, the smaller one at the back is canterlot from my little pony: friendship is magic, and the car is the impala from supernatural because i'm trash fight me
also i can't decide whether the curtains look best as turquoise, orange, yellow or purple.
and this is my favourite bit of the drawing
So much purple, it's so pretty!
