Generally, I try to keep a diverse team. I catch several members of a species, pick the one with the nest nature and stats and then EV train them.

This used to be TERRIBLE in older generations.

Especially early in because you only had a limited number of places to go, species to battle and so counting all the hundreds of battles to gain one point per battle for a chosen stat was a nightmare.

And I was incapable of being like 'Oh, OK, I battled ten Pidgey. That should give my guy an OK amount of speed, let's go explore.'

I was the guy that was like 'OK, ten down, several hundred to go'

Now? Super training.20 minutes and you have a maxed out 'mon.

I also get my Pokémon to max hearts in Pokémon Amie as soon as I decide to keep them.

The one deviation to the formula was my Nidoran Run.

Caught a Lonely little male Nidoran Male, named him Pinecone. Speed ran the game with a few rules:

Must battle all trainers.

Pinecone was allowed to know HMs and I could have two HM Pokémon on my team besides him.

HM Pokémon were not to be used in battle. If Nidoran fainted, it counted as Game Over and I had to reset to an earlier save.

Beat the main portion of the game in 19 hours.
