Yeah, the intonation is... a lot more depressed and downtrodden. I couldn't have matched the VA without checking, they're vastly different characters.

I'm not kidding, my this-dude-looks-like-Kurapika blinders have been switched on at full strength and I'm incapable of judging if this series is worth following or not.

... I'm following it anyway because Togashi hasn't updated in 16 months and I've reached the point where I'm willing to watch a possibly crappy show just because it has an expy of Kurapika in it.
