ThePhoenixViewerProject: why is it RL name RL photo, that does not mean anything to anyone other than if someone knows you. Wouldn't people relate more to it if an actual avatar with a name to back it up
shows in world as being 11 years in and shows that they are actually saying what backs that up. building a beach house buying a sim etc, I don't know who becky is, i have no connection to her in that ad
if it said I am example Isla Galeach avatar picture not RL then one day as a noob I come across Cheeky Pea , i feel a connection to her , she made me feel like joining ?
not being a downer but I know I joined because of someones avatar and what they were doing in world, I know that
WhimsyWinx joined because she discovered Linden Lifestyle blog and saw avatars doing cool
just a thought that maybe the RL thing is not the angle to keep pushing here. It is seeing what is possible to be not just possible to do, that makes SL so inviting.
sasypants Individual experiences may vary, but As marketers, we need to get prospects to put themselves in the picture of whatever product we are marketing. We need to facilitate
prospects building rapport with people that they can identify with. To the uninitiated, a picture of an avatar is less relatable than a picture of a real person.
When involving people in something new, we have to take people from the known to the unknown.
If one is unfamiliar with Second Life, we have to assume that people do have the same rapport with avatars as long-term users might.
It’s only after becoming involved in Second Life do avatars become meaningful, not before.
When recruiting new users we need to be mindful of putting ourselves in the headspace of people that have NO knowledge of Second Life, avatars, or virtual reality.
Again, exceptions will always exist, but marketers need to think more generally than that.
Nope. I don't want to share rl info and I personally would rather see "avatar" testimonials. It's what we relate to more.
LexiMorgan: That's no problem, and it
IS what SLers relate to, but this is not recruiting existing Slers
It might help to bear in mind that the RL photos aren't the only thing folks are seeing. There are already plenty of inworld pics on the pages. Here's one of them for context:
www.firestormviewer.org/...
The RL names, photos, and testimonials aren't replacing SL imagery, they're supplementing it.
what fraction of folks're attracted to SL because of th'pseudonymity, a chance t'be somebuddy other'n yer RL self?
CanaryBeck: that was my point earlier, it isn't always the case, RL people see something that could be fun, entertaining, different to their every day, a SECOND LIFE being something they aren't every day
They already know how to be a RL person, imagination is the key, also it is 2016 people have played games, you mention facebook, they play games in there, they may be from IMVU or have tried something in the
past, played an MMO and realise that in SL instead of being limited to what movement they can make or how they relate in such a game, in SL they can control that idea of themselves in different ways.
Marketing is also not something new as a concept to us as individuals
we all have RL's that vary, we know what buttons to push. On the social pages the pictures of people are pretty and great, but there
may still be a disconnect to some, until you show words from the mouths of similar looking people, why not mix both together.
LexiMorgan: has also been in SL a long time, and I don't see her hiding SL from RL, neither do I but those I know that have looked into it, only 'Got it' from seeing people be something else. Anyway the pages
are great, and I have met a lot of new people where I am located these days, I should start asking how they got here and why, that would be interesting.
that may be a disconnect comment I did not elaborate on, to those glancing, Second Life still can just be The Sims amped up. I was a huge sims fan (not the online) when I came here. Understanding that those
people in those pictures can talk, do , be, is a gap...understanding that they get to be that full time, not just control all those individuals in a scene, that they are that 'one' is very cool. We can do much
of the stuff you promote in other places, you can build, design, create in The Sims, but you do not get to be one. Once i tried playing it after being a Second Lifer, I never liked it again...who wants to do
all that work and not be truly in it
(teasing all the Sims addicts a little with that line)
I think it would be nice to not be locked out of participating, RL name and RL pic or we do not get to share our love for SL too, seems a bit of a let down. I have a sad now
