I dunno if ya get my meanin'. I mean, remove that box fer Last Name altogether, and replace "First Name" in th'first box with "Username". Can ya do that, or does th'UI come from LL?
Now if y'all really wanna be clever, you'd figure out a way fer folks t'type in a Display Name on th'website, and have it be set inworld automatically.
Thank you for clarifying. The dropdown is tied into the API code we receive from LL, as well. Even after all these years, the API still needs a last name entered in order to work, so it defaults to "Resident."
The data entered on the signup page goes directly to LL, of course (Firestorm doesn't receive any account info), so some aspects of the page's appearance likewise can't be changed, though we did add the text at
the top warning users that their username would be visible to all. Our web developer can look into ways to hide the dropdown (that is, it still registers the Resident data but isn't seen), but we might have to
wait for LL to update the API code, which we have heard might happen around the 31st. So while we would like to get rid of that dropdown, it may or may not happen.
Th'way I see it, yer last name in SL is whatever ya want it t'be, and ya can change it whenever ya like, via yer Display Name. Usernames jes don't mean what they usedta.
Usernames're more like phone numbers or social security numbers. Th'problem comes when people, viewers, or scripts use th'Username when they oughta use th'Display Name.
