because I got into a heated discussion over lunch: your feelings on people saying superman is 'boring'
Oh and on feelings, for your characters, what would you say is their strongest emotion?
Jon: Opinions about Jolt and Char?
Toni and Kitsu: So, here's the thing - like any character ever he CAN Be boring. It totally depends on the writer. But when you have a writer who GETS him, Superman is amazing.
....hello link I did not anticipate you showing up.
And I do get it - there's an idea out there that Superman is hard to relate to because of his powers.
Here's a guy with more power than anyone ever needs to have - what does he do? Gets a normal job, works his ass off to help people as much as he can while trying to make time for his friends and family
and do the best he can by everyone he meets. Even when those people don't really deserve it, sometimes. He tries anyway. Because that's who he is.
I can't move planets or punch evil aliens or save a plane full of people from crashing. But I can do all the other stuff. So, I think that's a side we can all empathize with and appreciate on some level.
My favorite stories concentrate on those aspects of him and those are very human stories, which I don't think are boring at all.
Kitsu - Knuckles' strongest emotion is protectiveness. If he cares about something, his fondest wish is to keep it safe.
Joel's is bitterness. Things have never been easy for him and what little happiness he'd managed to find for himself was taken away in the worst way possible. Add 20 years surviving the worst Humanity has to--
--offer and a fungal death plague to boot? He's a bitter old sonnovabitch.
Jon is a little more complicated. If I had to pick just one, it would be determination. He never does anything by half measures and if he has a goal, he achieves it with everything he has.
Sonny is joy. Finding joy in simple things as well as pursuing it through deeper avenues - and making sure to share it asmuch as he can.
Spreading joy is his favorite thing to do.
Hisao is probably fear, as little as he'd like to admit it. He knows his time is limited and his body is working against him. That's scary for him and for anyone he's close to. He worries a lot.
Batanen is lust. He's a lecher. Self confidence comes in a close second, though.
Ryoga's strongest emotion is loneliness - he often feels lost and alone even when he's among other people. His curse keeps him separate as well as his inability to find places.
Tommy's strongest emotion is greed. He wants it all and he wants it now. He's not afraid to work for it but it better wind up going his way or someone's going to pay for it through the nose.
Jeff: Jon's fine with them. He actually likes and respects Char and finds Jolt generally inoffensive. So long as they treat his precious Riwane well, he'll have no issues with them. Should they wrong her? He'll
be entirely less charitable.
