More like corporate tax accounting shenanigans.
Really? What would this have to do with that? I'm seriously ignorant when it comes to accounting stuff.
Well I barely saw anything, but they apparently made a new parent company, is what this "Alphabet" is.
Oh! That's why the article said it was announced after trading closed today, and shares went up like 5% or something, and that the company name would change on the stock market... and didn't say anything else
about the change, like how it might affect customers. But it did say "Google is no more"...
Maybe the author of the article misunderstood too...
Yeah I dunno, I haven't looked into it at all, just seen a couple plurks. I hate them, so, blech. lol.
wanders off to chat with geekmonkey about the new book she's reading
Google isn't going away. They are just moving shit around on paper.
Well I know Google isn't going away. I meant the name.
I woke up from a nap and saw, while I was still in bed, a breaking news alert on my phone saying Google is changing its name. Good thing I was lying down already or I might have collapsed.
Google the name isn't going away
boyo Thank you. I'll settle down now.
Google the company is now under alphabet the company. Stock shares will be alphabet shares, but still trading under the symbol GOOG
That's not breaking news to me, Guardian, stfu.
The Google people keep starting new side projects and buying companies left and right.
turns her attention back to the decision of whether to order pizza
Instead of having them be all under Google, a lot of this company debris will be under alphabet.
I also saw they had almost bought out Tesla when it was a couple weeks away from running out of money. I bet they regret not doing it.
Gotcha. I don't like that. :/
But all these big companies like Google and apple, they are involved in a lot of shady accounting to avoid billions in corp taxes
And the cynic in me is guessing that probably had something to do with it.
That's why I don't like it. That's absolutely what it is.
That's the realist in you, dear, not the cynic. Sadly.
You're such a bad influence.
Okay, pizza ordered, and I'm off Plurk again. You guys should catch me on LINE. Bye!
I went off to bed! XD And yeah, big companies are shit like that. IKEA somehow managed to get charity status even though they give diddly to any, so they pay way less taxes, plus they're HQ is in NL which is
already easy on taxes, given the way so many clamor to be located there. >__<
their* HQ, lol midsentence shift, was gonna say headquartered in but went for saving characters XD
