SCION PEOPLE! As you all know, there is a second edition of Scion coming out. I am pleased to announce that I can tell you which 10 pantheons will be in the new Scion: Hero!

The original 6 are all back, but with some changes. Aztecs are now a specifically Aztec pantheon, not generic Mesoamerican. The Greek pantheon is now called the Theoi rather than the Dodekatheon...

and may include some Roman and Etruscan gods. The Voodoo pantheon is actually now a West African pantheon. No real word on changes to the Aesir. The Egyptian and Japanese pantheon both get name changes.

They are also including the Chinese pantheon (now called the Shen), the Celtic pantheon, and the Hindu pantheon, and a tenth pantheon that has not previously appeared.

Luckily, I have well-placed agents that have been able to uncover the identity of the tenth pantheon, the [REDACTED] pantheon. Personally, I'm very happy they're including this pantheon, especially because

within the past few years I became much more knowledgeable about this culture. Admittedly, calling it a pantheon is sort of like calling the Japanese kami a pantheon, but they seem to be well aware of this.

Also, pantheons will contain demigods and culture heroes, not just gods, which is very appropriate for the [REDACTED] pantheon, as one of the bigger figures in the [REDACTED RELATED CULTURE] pantheon is

[REDACTED CULTURE HERO NAME], to the point where I heard about him before hearing about any other major spirits or monsters when I was learning the language.

TL;DR: Yes I know the tenth pantheon, no I'm not telling you on a public forum. I might tell you in private if I am so inclined.

Would it be cheating to ask which languages you know? =)

Seriously though it's good to know they're including the Companion groups right off the bat (could've sworn the Chinese guys were already called the shen?)
Alterz

And I like that they're letting West Africa own its own damn gods.

I have guesses on the tenth that you're hinting at but like... I don't even want to hope for it to be the guess that I'm rooting for slightly more 8|

I highly doubt it's the guess you're rooting for, but I can tell you it was something I was rooting for. I'll say that it's not the Mayan or Incan pantheon, but they hope to add those later.

The languages I taken formal classes on how to speak are Latin, Ancient Greek, Russian, German, Mongolian, Portuguese, Ojibwe, and Hmong. I've also done a year of fieldwork on Malay.

Actually, I guess giving out my list of languages rules out the Mayan and Incan pantheons on their own. Oh well.
Alterz

Hmmm... ruled out my first three guesses right off the bat, that's... surprising.

I know which out of those languages I'd guess, based on my own knowledge of mythology and culture heroes, but IDK if you want me saying it in the public plurk.

Feel free to guess. I won't confirm or deny anything on here unless it's a pantheon that the devs have specifically said they aren't putting in.
Melange_Thief

Ok, it got revealed elsewhere. It's the Algonquin pantheon!
Alterz

HAHA YES! ONCE YOU LISTED THE LANGUAGES I WAS GUESSING THAT OR RUSSIAN AND I DIDN'T WANT TO HOPE THAT IT WOULD BE A NATIVE GROUP.

For the record, the official name is the Manitou, but at any table I participate in as either GM or player, the official pantheon name will be Manidoog. Period.
Melange_Thief

(Manidoo/manitou is singular, manidoog is plural)
Alterz

That's good to know; do you happen to have the IPA on hand for that so I can do the same?
Melange_Thief

Looks like it's not an issue. I posted on the forums that manidoo was singular and gave some suggestions for the plural, and the developer agreed to do Manitouk unless his Algonquin source disagrees.

I'll give a broad transcription in IPA anyway because linguist. Ojibwe vowels and stops can be a bit slippery, particularly between dialects, but something like [mənɪdo:g] or [mənɪdu:g].
Melange_Thief

The stops might be devoiced or only lightly voiced in some dialects, but either of those pronunciations should be understood in most dialects.

Cool, thanks, good to know.
