[art] Does anyone use a wacom tablet or similar device? I've never been comfortable using one, and I have a question.

I feel like the thing is way too sensitive.

Like... it's so much smaller than my screen?

But the tablet corresponds with the whole damn screen? Maybe that's it.

But like... I can't quite ever feel like my line quality on a tablet is smooth.

I see little jitters and veers in my lines I never seen in traditional medium and so I've never liked using the thing.

I'm pretty sure that just comes down to practice, and tweaking settings until they are perfect with how you perform strokes

I've only just started to get good enough at traditional medium line quality that I don't hate my work. It feels like starting over and sucking entirely again.

It's like, the slightest little imperfection of a stroke on the tablet ends up being six times bigger on the screen.

Like, if I just draw with it more, will I get over it...? Or is it a matter of hardware? I just don't know.

if it's any consolation, my partner illustrates and draws a webcomic pretty much full time and even on a Cintiq "undo" is his best friend

but there's also been years of practice on various tablets and tweaking the drivers and apps to respond to his satisfaction

It is some consolation. lol

Hm. There's a smooth stroke option in GIMP itself.

And zooming in helps a lot.

But when I zoom out I still feel like I look 10 times worse than on paper. XD
