to report that the "zip-it" drain tool is nicely effective, although perhaps a little harder to extract than advertised.

Zip-It -- and here's a site where you can see examples of things people dragged out of their drains, should you for some reason wish to do such a thing.

I remain somewhat perplexed that the not-clogged drain was grosser than the really sluggish one.

I got a regular snake-type thing, but it's doing me precious little good. It goes only so far in the bathtub piping, then just stops. It's not twisting at a clog, either.

Zip-it's primarily for grabbing hair and similar. If it can reach something snaggable it will try to snag it. (If it doesn't want to come out, wiggle it a lot. The packaging recommends eye protection in case

If you've got something more, um, solid in there, or if it's too far down to reach, it probably won't do much good.

On the other hand, they should go for less than $3 apiece at least they do here, granted I've heard Florida grocery prices are ridiculously high so who knows about gizmos anyway it might be worth a shot.
