So I took a personality test (cause who doesn't) and it is eerily accurate.

And here's what I got: INFJ-T - The Advocate.

I've always found some of these (like MBTI) to be interesting, if a bit double-edged.

It's literally nothing more than a result on a test, but because that test is trying to reflect your own inherent behaviors, there's value in using it as a set of ideas for introspection

Even if it's way off base, it may help you think about your own behaviors in an objective way. Which is tough to do.

I think if you have folks take the test and you do enough interviews/assessments, there are likely commonalities and themes. which is why folks will find it accurate.

Because in a lot of situations, it IS accurate. And a lot of behaviors often == "types". Though it's usually good for reflecting and introspection, less about predicting futures or choices and such.

The odd timing of it all is that I'm writing a paper on psych testing and I chose a personality test (a different one). Now THAT'S some odd timing.

The Meyers-Briggs test tends to be better constructed than many other personality tests. Also, INTP here.

I'm an INFP, as usual, although I flip-flop between INFP and INTP.

It is often accurate! It's a pretty useful tool when used appropriately. INTP too wakko! Except when I'm ENTP. Really I just need balance to recharge.

What's irritating is when people hide behind their personality type and basically start explaining their personality quirks with their MBTI.

I usually see this with INTJs.

No, personalities are not tautologies.
deinera says

No. They're really very broad generalizations of behavioral tendencies. But it's funny how people do that hiding behind astrological signs too.
anisoptera

I feel like you can get away with doing that, assuming you buy into it, because your sign is supposed to affect your personality. It's at least internally consistent.

Also INTP-T. Woo!

Of course the "I" and the "T" are really close to center, because I'm actually a red mage.
