Batman (Tim Burton) is somewhat straightforward, coming into Napier's dive. The rest seems like a fairytale of what happens when Batman has guilt over killing his parents' killer. Joker's near unkillable...
... until he owns his vengeance, making Joker fall via gargoyle, in contrast to not pulling him up at the chemical factory. This makes me suspects the real villain in that film was actually Scarecrow.
