Superman was the first successful superhero movie (not sure when Flash Gordon came out, but that doesn't stick like Christopher Reeve). Batman was the first successful comic book movie

Superman was a radio superhero, first appearing in Action Comics. Batman was a TV hero, first appearing in Detective Comics.

Batman (Tim Burton) is somewhat straightforward, coming into Napier's dive. The rest seems like a fairytale of what happens when Batman has guilt over killing his parents' killer. Joker's near unkillable...

... until he owns his vengeance, making Joker fall via gargoyle, in contrast to not pulling him up at the chemical factory. This makes me suspects the real villain in that film was actually Scarecrow.
