I'd say easily the biggest mistakes by the commies
were recruiting Rin, and falling for Simon as the Loyalty Officer

I fell for the Troubleshooter thing hook, line and sinker.
TECHNICALLY ALL I SAID WAS YOMIEL WANTED TO PUBLICLY CONFRONT HER BEFORE TROUBLESHOOTING HER IN THE FACE, which is deceptively worded but not technically a lie....
I was talking to InstantEternity when that went down and it quickly went from "no Yomiel don't bluff" to "holy shit he's not bluffing"
So did I.
God, though, I was totally primed and ready to start the next IC day with a plurk full of cackling and then Simon died instead....

also I should say that all of you people making theories based on Clay being scanned are wrong, Clay wasn't scanned. He was pretty much a random shot after scanning Paul. 
So we knew Paul had no role anyway.
Kimbley and Simon were scanned though.
PAUL ACTUALLY VOLUNTEERED it was hilarious I got a tag from Simon going all "you need to pick someone to frame as a Loyalty Officer or they'll just kill you anyway" at the exact same time I got Paul's tag.

that whole gambit was really funny because
Bobby scanned Simon the night before
but they hadn't scanned Yomiel
so they knew Paul was full of shit
...and they knew Simon was too, but they believed Yomiel anyway?
they bought Yomiel's troubleshooter gambit
and knew Simon had A Role
and the only other role left was LOY
I was told he was definitely the troubleshooter, otherwise I would have gone after him sooner.
